Can I switch to Telecom Plus now please ?

Options
apologies for not including this question in the Telecom Plus Discussion thread, but I started reading it and the debate seems to be based on how they sell their services rather than the price of fuel.

USwitch has been advising for some time now that Telecom Plus would be over £100 a year cheaper than my current Powergen Duel Fuel Online bill, based on a combined bill of around £1000/yr

Martin said last week Don't Switch, Don't Switch, but what's the risk ? There's no minimum contract, so if they put up their fees I can just switch back surely ? And as to poor service and attitude - don't really care as long as I'm paying a lower rate and the light comes on when I flick the switch...

What am I missing ? why doesn't everyone switch away from these annoying 'we've got to double your direct debit' Powergen letters ?
am I missing something ??

  • I too am waiting to switch from PowerGen to Telecom Plus. Have the forms ready to sign.
Can't see the need to wait - will watch with interest!

I'd have thought that you'd get charged the TP joining fee even if you only stay a week. Is this not so?

  • There is no joining fee for Telecom Plus. There is a £1.76 monthly membership fee.

Rickycowslip and Happy_Shrimper, can you let us know how much you will save with a switch to TelecomPlus?

EDITED: and can you reassure us that you aren't both TelecomPlus agents (or whatever TP call their sales folk)

Can you explain why people have to pay this fee of approx £21 a year please, what do you actually get for it.? They havent always charged it have they?

  • Innovate - based on my current annual spend of £1000 on Powergen duel fuel online rates, USwitch suggests I would save over £100 switching to Telecom Plus. I've checked it myself and can't see any catch - other than USwitch rate them pretty low, but then they don't appear to get a cut...

I'm not affiliated in any way to Telecom Plus - why ? What's all this fuss about with 'distributors' ? I assume they are people who get some form of referal commission ?

Some Distributors have caused a bit of friction here in the past by being a bit zealous with their praise for the company. As one of them, I get a small percentage of everything my customers spend, for as long as they remain customers. To my mind, this tends to make Distributors work at keeping customers happy.

The £1.76 per month is the club membership "fee." I always presumed that it covers administration costs such as the all in one billing system, but I sit to be corrected.

I would have answered sooner, but I just arrived back from France today. If you've got any questions, just ask. I shall be away again Tuesday until the following Tuesday.

  • The comparison engines varied for me. One was about £100 per year and the other (UKPower) suggested £201! Can't quite see that though.
Checked the unit prices and it does seem cheaper.
I'm not a agent for them. Just a potential customer. Only not returned the contract forms after seeing Martins 'Don't switch' e-mail

I suspect this happens for everybody who checks more than one. My suggestion is to check a few and see which companies are consistently at the top end. Then do your own comparison of, say the top three or four, using the criteria that best suit your requirements.

I would like green energy, but, at this moment I choose to have one single bill and an overall good value package of cost and service. I know the company that I am with will not always be THE cheapest for any individual utility but it will be in the top few. I am happy with what I've got, others prefer to go for every deal of the moment. It all comes down to personal preferences and choices. Not very helpful

  • Telecom Plus is a network marketing company which is why they can keep the prices of there services so low. They act as a broker, in other words they check the market place and move you to the cheapest supplier on that specific day therefore gauranteeing you the cheapest gas and electricity in the market place.

I have been using them for over a year now and have cut my bills by around 30%. I live in a three bed semi which is occupied all day long as I work from home and my wife is in looking after our baby twins. Therefore you would expect quite a high gas and electric bill each month. We pay on average about £30 for both gas and electric combined.

Excellent service, good itemised billing so never needed use there customer services so can't comment on them. :T
