When did you stop tucking your kids in at night?

My kids are teenagers, we haven't 'put them to bed' for a long time.
When they were little we used to read to them downstairs (at any time of day not particularly evenings)
They would all be bathed / PJ's / teeth at the same time, then any last minute chit-chat. Those times were great, all in bed asleep by 7.30!!
As they got bigger we had a rota for shower order (no joke; it was in writing!! ) followed by a lot of shouting; " leave your sister/ brother alone" "stop slamming doors" "will you get a move on...." "stop throwing water / toys" "no, you're not staying up to watch........" "I don't care that all your friends are allowed up until bed at midnight" etc
Then the relief of lights out!!
Nowadays we tell them that WE want to go to bed so can they turn the lights off, turn their tellys / stereos / finish guitar practice down because we want to go to sleep!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yes, that's the key; like a lot of things with children, you have to take the lead from them in lots of things from potty-training, to giving teenagers the opportunites to spill out their current angst to you!
All they want, no matter what their age is security and the knowledge that you are on their side.
