Where we live ALL cans are recycled.
Generally I take the lid off and rinse out in the washing up water at the end. Pop the lid back into the empty can and into the recycle container.
This is exactly what I do :T

It doesn't matter what metal a can is made of - you can recycle it anyway :D

Once upon a time it was aluminium only but not for quite a few years ;)

Well, that hardly applies when it's going to RECYCLING, last I heard they don't keep pets at recycling centres.

Also putting the lids with the shatp edges in the bin only means they will end up at the tip where they actually might hurt animals that scavenge there. It is less harmful to put them with your recycling as the people that work with it are fully trained and aware og sharp objects, unlike the poor animals.

Well actually it does apply when the waste is going to the recycling centre. We have to put put our recycling for collection in an open topped box about 18" high - an animal could easily get in there no problem.

Well if everything in the recycling box is washed out as it should be there is no reason why animals would show any interest in it.
We have the same system where I livee and plenty of cats around, they never go near the recycling but frequently get in the rubbish bags because they can smell food, surely they are then more at risk from the sharp metal lids in the rubbish bag than in the box???
