This might seem a bit silly but when I recycle cans I never know whether I should be recycling the lid as well. I normally put them in the rubbish as they seem a bit dangerous especially when opened with a tin opener rather than a ring pull. They are very sharp and could give someone a nasty cut.
I know that the people sorting out the rubbish most likely wear thick gloves but I still cant bring myself to put sharp metal in the recycling bag. Do any of you do the same or do you put the lids in as well?. Am I supposed to recycle the lid?

how about this
next time you open a tin can, dont open it all the way around so it comes off. leave a decent sized amount and bend the top back and empty the contents.
that way the lid and can are still one attachment that you can bend the lid back to a closed position.0 -

It's not daft, i actually wondered the very same thing the other day. I think its ok if you clean the tin straight away then put lid inside then crush the can...but you don't always have time to do that, so if i haven't i bin it, knowing it can be recycled but don't want to harm anyone.Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D0

I have tried not taking the lid off but it is still sharp and jagged. I suppose though if everyone did the same as me a lot of aluminium would be wasted. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Yes, we recycle the cut off lids from cans as well as bottle tops, metal lids from glass jars, biscuit tins, foil pie dishes, and foil tops from yogurt pots.
Options as already suggested, don't cut all the way round, or push the lid inside and squeeze the sides so it can't come out, or cut both ends off, put inside and squash the whole lot flat.I married my cousin.
