If conscription starts in England I would far rather not have a British passport and hold only an irish one...seriously from what I have heard it IS a possibility.Lets just hope the mad americans don't go chasing more oil.0

It is "you're" (you are) Irish not your
and if you are born in Northern Ireland you can have either as you are deemed to be both Irish and British
Finally there is no such thing as an english passport - it is a United Kingdom (British) Passport
or Belfast or Derry or even Co Kerry you can easily get an United Kingdom passport.
To get an Irish passport you need to be born in Ireland or to be off irish
parentage.0 -
The british ones are still a lot handier for going to the US of A however, fast tracked at customs;) and no visa requirements;)
Is this true? I thought it would be better to travel to America on an Irish passport as the Americans love the Irish.
By having an Irish passport will u b held at customs 4 longer? What visa requirements do u have 2 have that are different on a British/Irish passport? Please advise. Thanks0 -

No, you probably won't be treated any differently. I never have been anyway and I have travelled on both passports.
As far as I know if you're only going for a short holiday they are exactly the same.0 -

But do you not run into the british citizen/subject problem??2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.0 -
There is no difference between a British or an Irish passport for travelling to the states. Both countries are subject to the Us Immigration Visa Waiver. Either will do nicely.Timmay!0
