Cavity Wall Insulation Offer - any good?

The local council (backed by nPower) has got a contractor in my area and Cavity wall insulation or Loft insulation will cost £99 each (don't need to get both, can get one or the other or both!).
My mate had the loft done last year (via a similar Council type scheme offer) and the people that came where a couple of kids (alright 17/18/19!), they didn't bother putting the insulation down so he complained and they came back and did a better job.
I am interested in the Cavity Wall insulation but don't want cowboys to turn up again and not do a good job. Is £99 cheap or does it usually only cost a bit more?

£99 does sound cheap....but at the same time, you're saying you "don't want cowboys to turn up".
I guess what I'm trying to say is, what do you expect for £99?
Are you sure these guys actually have an affiliation with the council? Did you hear about the offer through the council, or from a cold-call (or flyer through your letterbox)?0 -
From a flyer with the local paper, it is Council headed etc but I'd make sure it was actually Council backed before I went ahead (call the Council direct).0

energy trust grants via local councils, they wont be cowboys as they would lose a massive local contractIf I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me
If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:

I got mine done via the warm front group. A bunch of black men turned up, very friendly took them a few hours very polite,
I did notice after they had gone one of my bricks had moved so i had to get them back out to replace it.
Also had my loft insulated they did a good job of that too.........
If you contact the warm front if you are on low income you can either get it done free or if you dont get into that cat then its really cheap.
I had mine done free i earned 12500 last year.
Hope this helps:ASexy_fufu:A0 -

Not overly cheap - I only paid £115 to have cavity wall insulation. Phoned company up to come out and give me a quote and then told me the best grant would be with ? energy and I would have to pay £115. Job done. Can't complain as the house feels alot warmer now and lets hope so in winter as I don't want another gas bill of £175 quater!
Company was Millfold Insulation**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0 -
I used Millford Insulation only 9 days ago. Two young men came out to do the loft and cavity walls. I found the job was done well.
Millford Insulation sent out an inspector a week later to check every thing is ok.
The inspector checked the cavity wall was insulated correctly and also went into the loft to check insulation there. His findings were that they had left a small section and some rubbish up there, so would arrange for them to come back to finish the job - which should be next week.
So although they havn't quite done the job to the standards set by the Company Millford, at least an inspector reciftys this. Very good Customer Care.0 -
The other week we received a voucher from Powergen for half price cavity wall insulation. Powergen seem to be charging £75 no matter what size the house is. As the last quote for my 4 bedroomed house was around £400 (approx 6 years ago) this price seemed too good to be true but, having seen some of the prices quoted in this thread, it doesn't seem too far off. I'll give them a ring after the weekend.0

We had cavity wall insulation installed last week following a similar offer in our local paper. We have a reasonable sized 4 bedroom detached house and it only cost us £174 which I thought was very good. Took three men 4 hours to finish the job, they cleared up and swept round, were polite and pleasant (that matters to me when I'm here on my own during the day!) and the house already feels much warmer.0

Does anyone have the offer details for Powergen to hand? £75 for cavity wall insulation sounds excellent but does not mention this price on the website (quotes around £175 after filling in their survey) - is there a code or special number to call?
Many thanks
