This is the one to go for......safe / simple / cheap
Unless of course you want to go for the Money Saving one and replace the whole tank....:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

dont repair it you will regret it because when it eventually gives and the insurance come to inspect it and they see you have patched/repaired it they will not pay out on your claim and believe me it will give at some stage
need to have a lightbulb moment

The OP has stated that they would like to repair the tank.

It is not unsafe at all and that is only your personal opinion, exactly what we would expect from a plumbers mate though.
Grief thre are some False Economists among the Money Saving Experts here.

To suggest that it is safe is no more than another personal opinion and I would rate Canucklehead's advice on this forum highly.

As for my opinion, I have tried repairing a plastic tank, and it has worked for months and months, but eventually it failed, costing me a bathroom ceiling. These repairs look good to start with, but ultimately they fail. I would repalce the tank and be done with it.

There, another opinion, backed up by experience.
After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
    To dissolve the people
    And elect another?

If the OP doesn't want to replace the tank( it should be replaced best pratice) then i would drill the hole and fit a brass bolt and brass washers with rubber wahers through the hole. With a small amout of silicone around the bolt thread.
Do NOT use any oil based sealants.
