Replace tank, and think yourself lucky that you spotted leak before it was a flood.

can you drain it so both sides are dry? if so jb weld over the hole should do it, use a patch if its a biggish hole

jb weld is safe to use for drinking water once dry , i buy mine on ebay

Good evening: Are you referring to your cold water storage cistern in the loft? Replace it and make sure instructions are followed..see more here .

yes cold water storage in loft.. seems like the previous owners had nailed a piece of wood to the side and when we was doing out the loft noticed this and took the wood off and noticed the small hole thats there now..

replacing the tank is that a big job expensive job etc.. just trying to find out the best way to do this, and repair if possible

    and repair if possible

What would be the cost if the tanks small hole turned into a large one
( in the middle of the night/ while you were away etc)

Tank would empty ...... but then would not the water continue to flow from the mains?
( ball !!!! would not shut off)

Could you go on holiday , thinking a repair would do the trick!

    I hope I haven't scared you ....... NO! I hope I have !

Good morning: Replacing your CWC wouldn't be expensive job. CWCs are available from Screwfix . Your personal safety/protection of your property should take precedence over moneysaving....invest the cash now and as wallbash has suggested have peace of mind. FWIW..a patch job is unsafe practice and is not recommended.

how about fitting an over flow joint and then a cap on the end.
If i was going to go to the plum store and buying any parts to fix it, as well as getting my tools that i need in the loft. I would just replace the tank.
By the time you have brought the parts to fix and fixed it, you could of replaced the tank.'
