TalkTalk Frustration

We signed up to TalkTalk a year ago tempted by their cheap combined phone and broadband package.
But the reliability is APPALLING and technical support are really, really poor. At least six times in this year we've lost connection and it's taken a couple of days to get it sorted out.
But yesterday was the last straw. I followed some instructions from the tech support guy (probably in South Africa) and he told me to make some changes to the router settings. But the upshot was that that didn't work so he then said that they don't support Linksys routers. In which case why make me change settings in the first place?
I keep getting different stories from different people (inluding a promise to phone me back from someone called Tina who hasn't phoned at all) and just got so frustrated, but in the end got it working in a way so that even the final tech support guy (called Stuart) didn't understand what had happened. Normally I'm a really placid kind of guy but I was getting very assertive on the phone with them and really laying into them (but without being rude or offensive to the person at the end of the phone).
They have promised to deduct £5 from the next 3 months bills and give me a new free router that their tech guys can support, but we are intending to cancel when the contract expires. After all, why would anyone WANT to be with a company that offers such a poor level of support and reliability? The only reason for staying seems to be that it is cheap, but factoring in the time wasted on phone calls and the increasing sense of frustration, why would that make it worth staying?
How easy is it going to be to find a decent provider once my contract expires in 2 months?
From a soon-to-be-ex TalkTalk customer, who will be telling all my friends/family to STAY AWAY FROM TALKTALK AT ALL COSTS.

Hey folks, direct your complaints over to here:

The guys on there are great and they really do know the meaning of customer service. They should be able to get your problems sorted.

"I posted this a few days ago" I sent an email in about the broadband not working and got a call the same day from a broadband technician in warrington who got me up and going. They even sent a email back after asking if every thing was still ok. If you are having a problem try them, i am well cuffed with the internet now. :j0

1. answered your own question
2. dead easy either post your postcode, or check samknows.com yourself for local LLU operators, post the results and how you use the internet (what you use it for) and a budget, with few exceptions you tend to get what you pay for.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0
