If you were renting where would you look for tennents?

Hi,
I'm noving up to the Preston area for 6 months and am trying to find somewhere to live but because I'd rather not actually live in Preston itself(I need my countryside!) I'm having trouble finding suitable places.
I'm registered on EasyRoomMate.com and have contacted local estate agents but can anyone else suggest anywhere else where I could potentially find people looking for tennants (am considering both living on my own & with others).
The main problem is that I don't live anywhere near Preston at the moment so I can't just pop up there and hope for the best. I do have a friend checking the notice board where I'm going to be working but no luck so far.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Cheers

Clarkey,
Not the foggiest personally, but I tried the Lancashire Evening Post website and for flat and houseshare it links through to
http://uk.easyroommate.com/index.cfm?ac=propertiestoday&Countrycode=uk
You could also try getting your mate up there to buy the LEP and check the classified's for you, probably have a specific day for property ads but I don't know what it is.

try gum tree - i found some nice tenants there, who'd registered as looking, when i'd registered letting, but stayed on for a look and replied0

Cheers guys,
I'm registered on Easyroommate so have that list but unfortunately there are only a couple of places in the area I'm looking at (I think I may just be a bit fussy but want to live near work so I can avoid using my car).
Thanks for the name of the local paper though, I will send my friend out to the shop for a copy in the next week!
Sooz - don't think Gumtree covers the right area but might put an add in the Blackburn section coz that's kinda close & someone might see it!Feb 14 GC - £89.37/£3000 -
sorry, north of the m25 i'm kind of lost0

me too! I live in Swindon right now

Had to buy an A-Z of Lancashire to help me work out where anything was.Feb 14 GC - £89.37/£3000 -
You should be able to order yourself a copy of the Preston paper through your local newsagents (WHS or chain ones). As you have internet access, you should be able to use one of the online map/route websites (AA & RAC both do them I think) to help you work out the distance/expected journey time to work from anywhere you're considering renting0

Clarkey,
Sorry about the link, didn't connect with what you'd already said.
I'm not in Preston but know the area moderately well. Just a bit confused though, you want to live in the countryside [they got more of that than you can shake a stick at!] but walk to work? Which area of Preston is your work situated? I'll try to advise on nearby villages, country areas.0 -
Ah I see where you may have got confused - work is not in Preston. It's in Warton so am looking for places that side of Preston - Kirkham / Lytham etc.
Hmmm might try local post offices and shops to see if they have anything on their noticeboards - wonder if they'll appreciate me ringing up to ask?!
The main problem I have is that Estate Agents tend to rent out entire houses which would be quite expensive for just little old me & my dog. And aside from one option on EasyRoomMate most of those listing are in the town.
Ah well I shall keep looking - something will turn up and at the end of the day it's only 6 months so not the end of the world if I don't find my perfect house!
Didn't know I could order local papers through WH Smith - good tip.Feb 14 GC - £89.37/£3000 -
Pretty good walk - you're dog'll enjoy it!!
- from Lytham to Warton. Most of the Fylde, ain't too bad. You could also look at the Fulwood, Longton, Hutton side. Not a walk but fairly easy drive in.
You could also try some ads in the LEP and/or newsagents windows. If you're serious about the dog, wouldn't be too sure how many flat/houseshares would be interested!

I think unless I'm down the street walking is out of the question unless I want to spend hours getting to work everyday!- I'm intending to invest in a bicycle if I live close enough.
The dog is a problem but I'm determined she's coming with me. Fingers crossed somewhere out there is a place for me
