Where is it possible to get a good value DSL package with enough speed and limits to run remote desktop and a small web server? Small business running this, so VAT reclaimable. Also, anyone suggest a good DSL wireless router?
Thanks,
Tim

Why you calling it DSL for, i call it cable and other people might be the sameNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

DSL and cable aren't the same. DSL has a set bandwidth for you, cable has a shared bandwidth between you and a whole load of other subscribers.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

Not really quite true, there's a contention ratio with both. But I assume as this is for business purposes with a web server you're after SDSL rather than ADSL."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Ah. It would seem that I'm after cable then. Yes, I already have ADSL, but realise that since uploads are so slow, there would be little point trying to use it for remote desktop or a web server.
Is the Virgin cable package symetric? Also, do they operate an open port policy, or have any sneaky upload limits? Basicly, is their package suitable for use hosting a small server?Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0 -

Hence my presumption of SDSL (rather than ADSL) which does tend to be offered to small businesses. Uploads are just as fast as downloads. I don't think cable will offer you significantly higher upload speeds (at least with most packages). There is just as much discrepency between upload and download speeds with bothe ADSL and cable."She is quite the oddball. Right. Good to have that sorted out. However, is BT the only company to offer SDSL, as they seem to charge a fortune!Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

SDSL is a lot more expensive than ADSL because of the faster uploads and better contention.
You'll normally be looking in the £200pm for a 2048/2048Kbps SDSL service.
What sort of upload speeds are you looking for?“Official Company Representative
