Scottish power 2011 NOT REALLY AVAILABLE!!

Hi,

I switched to this a few weeks ago and told one of my relatives.

He phoned up yesterday (28/5/08) and agreed to switch, he later phoned up to switch a realtive over and was told it wasn't available anymore.

He was put through to a manager who said he had been missold this and when they look at his application they will not honour it!!

Please check if you have "switched" in the last few days you might not be getting the tariff you think.

  • Hi,

He phoned to switch to the fixed deal until 2011. He was told that was ok.

He phoned later to switch someone else onto it.

They told him it was not available anymore, he could not have the fixed deal.
It had finished not sure when, possibly last Friday.

So if you have switched since maybe Friday (not certain of the day)
your application for fixed rate might not be honoured.

    Just think people should check!!

The Fixed 2011 is still available, if it is the right product then try again, there may have been a misunderstanding.

  • Hi,

How do you know it is still available? They said on the phone that it was but someone else contradicted this.

It would be great if it was.

Is it cheaper than Npower 2011 deal ??

    >>>

    Gas:
    6.55p first 4572 Kwh/year
    2.13p afterwards

    Electricity
    14.98p first 728Kwh /year
    13.90p afterwards
  • Yes, I saw that thread and people are still saying they are signing up to it so thought they ought to check. Cos deals are ending all the time and it might be too late to get another fixed deal.

You can't do comparisons like that - as there are huge regional variations in the prices. For instance the Yorks prices for NPower 2011 are (in red) :

    Gas:
    6.55p first 4572 Kwh/year (6.738)
    2.13p afterwards (2.236)

    Electricity
    14.98p first 728Kwh /year (15.73)
    13.90p afterwards (14.66)

Doesn't look much at first glance .. but there's a 5% difference on the second tier - and that's with the same Company and allegedly the same tariff.

Be very cautious that you're getting the right comparisons if moving to fixed / capped. To go to 2011 tariffs my increase (from EON 5) is 41% to Scottish Power and 53% to NPower. But I've had to calculate that manually - some of the comparison sites were returning figures as low as 7%! Mistrust them - work out your Kwh consumption from previous bills ... and do the calc yourself (including any discounts).
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
  • Im with Scottish Power already and I have just logged onto my account online and I have been able to switch to the capped 2011 tarif. Is it just the Op who has had the problem? If so it might be worth them phoning back to check.

I'm ringing Scottish Power tonight. I'd be more inclined to choose these over Npower if a little more just for their reputation.
