Some sports shops won't even allow an exchange WITH a receipt,as is their right.

Cant speak for all TK Maxx stores, but the 2 i visit regularly had large signs everywhere informing customers of the impending change of policy. And as for returning a bra, they dont accept returns on underwear, that has been policy for a while now i think.

Where i work is exactly the same.No receipt= No exchange or refund.This is due to abuse of the procedure.

They don't need to cover themselves, the starting point is that you have no right to return a non-faulty item, so unless their returns policy when you bought allowed for returns you have no right to expect to be able to return the item.
