Japan in Novemeber-where to stay?

Off to Japan in November, and will be staying in Osaka, Tokyo, saltama and Yokohama. Any recommendations on where to stay. We want to stay in the centre of each place and as long as the hotel is clean and safe we arent really too fussy about amenities, just a place to sleep. Something along the line of the travelodge/travel inn standards would suffice, just clean and basic and working on a maximum budget of £80 per room per night.
Any tips appreciated. thanks.

My son has just returned from Japan and he stayed in a chain of hostels which were excellent. When I can get in touch with him later today I will post details.

The Hotel Sakura in Jimbocho is a cheap n cheerful Travel Inn-style option, pretty central, compact but cheap. They do private rooms and dorms.
  • Hi my family are off to Tokyo in July for 10 days and we haven't booked a hotel yet!

Has anyone been there before and can recommend a hotel?

Any help would be appreciated - Thanks!

check out Comfort Hotels. they're all over japan and i cant comment on which particular hotel to stay in each city (couldn't find one in saitama though) but they're very good value for money and very high standards for the price you pay - which can be anythin from 5700yen to 9000yen for single rooms, slightly more for double but well within your budget! i think all comfort hotels offer free breakfast (buffet - though limited) and free wifi.

check out www.comfortinn.com and see what you can find. I stayed at Comfort hotel Narita for the airport once - absolutely perfect for some £26 for one night!
  • Hi, someone sent me this thread.

I'm afraid I can't help with hotel advice as my husband's parents live there and we've always stayed with them apart from one spa hotel in Hakone which we had at a company discount rate anyway.

At the risk of going off-topic, I thought I'd let you know that even if you find accommodation expensive eating out is pretty cheap compared to here.

As an example five of us, including my sushi-loving 16month old girl, ate in a sushi bar on the outskirts of Tokyo in May and the bill came to around £35-40 each time including green tea all round and four beers. You'd probably be looking at double that in the UK.

    Hope that helps!

    Andrea :)

.. now back to the topic :)

Still off topic but after seeing the film Sex in the City this week I don't think I'll ever be able to eat sushi or view it seriously again
