Sorry folks. I thought I would flash this one at you (although I don't know how to insert a picture so please HELP). Made it myself with reclaimed old bricks last spring. All mods and cons, I cook on a large steel plate heated from fire underneath (any kind of reclaimed wood, old window frames, my old greenhouse and the occasional log. Great parties to be had around it and the heat generated by this oven type BBQ is incredible, allowing us to stay outside late in the evening.

Looks awesome and would look grand in my back garden.
Unfortunately I can see this bbq thing being a bit of a occasional thing with me so I can,t justify the effort.
I do have a diy book here that shows you how to build something very similar to yours step by step.

    Yours is great well done.
Thx for sharing and your time posting.

I love to BBQ and I have destroyed large quantities of meat over the years and tried all kinds of BBQ's. I now swear by what I call the 'kettle' type .. something like this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/catalogId/1500001001/partNumber/3450011.htm
although this one is on the small size.

The reason I like this type is that the main problem with BBQ'ing is the fat dropping onto the charcoal and 'flaming' which makes the meat all black and tasting funny. With the kettle type you open the air intake at the bottom fire up the BBQ and add the meat when the coals are well alight. If you get flaming you just put the lid on and this puts the flames out because it removes the air. You then adjust the air intake at the top so that the coals still burn but there is no flaming. Then sit back and wait until it is cooked.

The last one I bought was an end of season £30 reduced to £15 from a local shed but there are lots around at reasonable prices.
I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!

    Just a quick follow up.
BBQ arrived on Tuesday. We have had a busy weekend with one thing or another.
My better half was going to do roast chicken yesterday instead of roast lunch today as we had to go out.
I stopped her just as she was going to put the little fella in the oven.
Oh no you don't lets try this BBQ out.
I thought I was bound to mess it up but as it happens it turned out spot on.

Many thx for all the posters on this thread.

    Ps.Yes he does look lonely
