The fires were very near our house and sadly it looks as if they were started deliberately! Unbelievably sad for those who have lost their homes.
Try and do a good deed every day.

Would anyone with any knowledge of Spanish mortgages / repossessions / lettings etc be willing to pop over to this thread on the Families board?

We have had three holidays in Spain this year - a total of 19 nights - and have really enjoyed ourselves. So it was sad to see the fires down south, AND the fires in Catalunya (we saw the charred earth later). And now it is desperately sad to see the floods down south.

With the economic difficulties, it is a horribly bad time for our Spanish neighbours. I hope things improve very soon indeed.

I notice, too, that Catalunya seems to be pressing more and more for complete independence. It will be interesting to see what happens - and will French Catalunya want to join them?

A few miles from me - my son was driving along 2 of the roads which have collapsed 48 hours before . Don't know how I'm going to get to my favourite beach or restaurant, right enough there is no beach at the moment .

It is truly awful, and I understand it is viewed as an Act of God so not covered by insurance so I am sure it will be the final straw for a lot of people and businesses :(. And access difficulties mean that even unaffected businesses will suffer. Just the last thing that was needed - fire, flood and the pestilence that is the global economy :(.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

this is the latest from Zurgena town Hall

["The following is a Zurgena Town Hall report as of an hour ago, it might be of interest and help to some. Hi all. I hope no one had suffered to much damage and all are OK. First the bad news and then more bad news. At La Alfoquia we are totally cut off because: The E15 at Junction 547 ( towards La Alfoquia & Huercal Overa , Baza etc) is closed due to massive land slide : Road from Zurgena to Palaces is closed due to a bridge being washed, The road out of Zurgena South towards Lubrin is closed. The bridge at Cucador is closed ( I believe due to danger of collapse). If anyone is desperate to get to Almeria, Alicante or Murcia airports the please take note. The only way onto the motorways is as follows.Go to Albox, up to suicide corner, turn right and then left, take the road out towards Taberno, then to Santa Peta, then to Huercal Overa. This brings you to Just up from Lidl's. It's a long way round but it can be done, I did it yesterday. For those going to Murcia or Alicante: Take note the motorway bridge this side of Lorca has been washed away. Yesterday the police were providing an escort to a sort of diversion that takes about 25KM and 45 minutes to drive, you can then re-join the E15 by Lorca town centre. From there to Murcia airport ( via the RM2 MU 602 etc was passable. On towards Alicante I don't know. For those trying alternative route please be advised: On the AP7 the b ridge between Aguilas and Pulpi has been washed away. The bridge on the AP7 at Cuevas has been washed away. The coast road at Puerto Rey has been washed away, The bridge between Vera & Garrucha has been washed away. There is major damage at the Bourganvilla roundabout and Pueblo Laguna. Honestly the devastation is indescribable and it will take months( if not years in some cases )to sort matters out. I am sure there will be many more updates from all quarters, and I have only just covered a few of the problems that I know of in the hope saving anyone frustration and pointless journey]

  • I have seen free travel in EU for over 65s referred to in a guidebook for Croatia and Slovenia and also seen it on TripAdvisor as available in Budapest on proof of age.

Anyone know if this is currently the case in any or all of the EU countries even if nonresident (on holiday)?

    Information would be greatly appreciated.
