    I have now!

Funny ... Nothing of yours has appeared on my Facebook page. Wonder why? Do you get alerts when I add photos? I used to get them for you, and as far as I know, I've changed nothing.

I've no idea why not. I used to get alerts when you added photos but not any more. It's possible I've mucked something up but I don't know what.

Hello there, a nice thing happened today.

I got a phone call from my friend saying that her sister's granddaughter (9) needed 'something from Spain' to take into school and had we got anything?

My husband has LOADS of photographs on his laptop, so he has printed out about a dozen of our village, showing the scenery, the people and the animals, and written a little bit about each of them for the girl to take in. There is also a map to show where the area is in Spain.

I hope it will be enjoyed by the children (the Teacher will certainly enjoy it - a ready made lesson!) .

I think the children will enjoy hearing about Gerald the Gecko who lives in our kitchen and keeps it clear of flies, and who sticks to the walls and can even climb up the glass windows. They will also like the picture of Manolo the Shepherd and his sheep and Trufo his sheepdog, and the one of our friend Pascal and his mule Chico who walked from our village, across Spain, over the Pyrenees and into France last year. I think they will like the picture of Tomas ploughing with his mule team, in between his grapevines, on a hillside with snow-covered mountains in the background.

They will be given a small glimpse of a part of Spain that most people don't know exists.

We have really enjoyed putting the package together. The girl's grandma is collecting it in half an hour. Hope she's pleased!

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • That was a lovely thing to do, and I think the little girl will always remember your kindness - and she will remember what was on those photos, and may even learn to think about the values of a traditional country life, as opposed to the incessant consumerism she is normally subjected to.

I read some threads on here and it seems that materialism is truly the religion of the time. (And no, I am religious at all - more of a humanist, in fact).

Totally agree with you droopsnout, in fact that is one of the things I like about village life in rural Spain - materialism and consumerism are largely lacking.

    (And I am religious, I am a Christian :) ).

  • Hi 7DW - Why don't you join Facebook and you can upload your photos for all to see. Droopsnout is the expert. His lovely house is there too. You could even watch his YouTube video of the fireworks and music in Lectour in September.
