In fact, when I went in to upgrade my account to a plain Bank Account (back when it was a Basic Bank Account), no mention was even made of Plus at all. It was entirely my own choice, with no prompting from HSBC at all!
That and I never said paying for an account is a bad thing in itself, if you use the benefits; being duped into paying for one I have more of a problem with.
yes i see what you mean i hold accounts with hsbc and natwest and there was a certain degree of promting towards the ad gold as hsbc just told me what was available!you cant change yesterdaybut you can make tomorrow better0 -

With due respect Kavanne I never ring up anyone and make it out to be the person I am speaking to fault, even when I have had big problems with my telephone provider I never ring them shouting etc, I know its not the operators fault and to anyone else who thinks it is, it really isnt!
I am on about the way staff talk to people and look down at you behind the counter in branch.DELETE ACCOUNT.

I have banked with Natwest for over 30 years - yes I know it is very sad!!
They are DESPERATE for me to transfer to this expensive account where you pay £12 a monthy or so. The first time they hijacked me in the branch and even though I said I would not use any of the supposed "savings" they still transferred me to it. I then cancelled it.
The next time I was abroad for 6 weeks and when I came back they had transferred my account to this Advantage Gold or whatever it is called without my knowledge!!
I was not amused.0 -

I had the craziest experience with natwest a few months ago. I've had an account with them for a few years and while on telephone banking the lady offered me the AG upgrade on the premise I could try for 30 days. After 2 weeks and reading all the 'advantages' I realised I was already covered for the stuff I needed to be so asked to be downgraded - which they did to a normal account. Anyway I went away for a few weeks and when I got back was shocked to find letters asking me to pay the overdrawn amount of £78. Now I'd never used the account yet so was a bit shocked. Turned out they'd charged me for the first 2 weeks which took me £3.85 over drawn which of course lead to letters (and charges for) interest and unauthorized charges being added. Anyway after I spoke to them they 'agreed' to remove all charges. I said to them this is a great way to make profit charge a person for never using an account and has a nil balance.0

Husband and I have Advantage Gold...
We initially went to the branch for another matter and got upsold the AG account.
Have made use of it, such as travelling to USA and making use of Worldwide Travel Insurance also have 2 mobiles covered with OrangeCare but nipped that in the bud and have them covered with AG, they were £6 each before.
Husband didn't breakdown cover but made use of the Green Flag thing yesterday!
All in all, it is OK for us but husband is more easily upsold than me and luckily we know our branch staff quite well and she did explain there is a monthly fee and fee for part month thereof.
