NatWest and me 5 years ago!

When my credit file was still in reasonable nick I went in and applied for a current account. I sat down and as requested brought in 3 months bank statements from other bank.
I was not working and at first I said I'll go for the 'Step' account. She said to me, I'll apply for a current with full package, anyway she took my details and it offered me A full gold account with Servicecard and a £200 overdraft!
I picked my cheque book design, a nature theme, so what do you make of that? Not working, a house wife:rolleyes:
I still find the workings of banks a mystery:question:

They charge you for the advantage gold account...
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

Oh yes, I think it was about £5 a month then, but I got it free for 3 months! So just cancelled it. I guess it is still pretty similar, although when you apply now a days they ask if you have been bankrupt:eek:
    So that's me out!

Yeah, it's a common ruse. Generally goes like this:

Customer: Hi, I'd like a Current Plus account please.
NatWest gonk: Certainly, but OMG my computer has JUST THIS SECOND decided that you can have an Advantage Super-Duper Epic Win Jesus Christing Christ This Is Awesome Gold Account Plus instead! YOU QUALIFY, like everyone else does! And the debit card looks shinier!
Customer: Gee, really? Wow, I'll have that, seeing as I qualify like everyone else does! It sure sounds exclusive!

In all seriousness, it's a horrible sales pitch as, according to quite a few people on these boards, they never really make it quite clear enough that it's a paid service which everyone with £12 a month to spare qualifies for.

How rude, Shelfstacker. When I do an application for a current account, I provide my customers with all their product options so they can make an informed decision for themselves. I'm sorry you've had bad experiences, but some of us are decent!!

My main reason for the post was to say I was a housewife and still got a FULL current account with NatWest. It was more than 5 years ago tho! So understanding credit scoring is well difficult. 5 years on I have a current account with Yorkshire, with a Maestro card and the only thing now, Yorkshire Bank are quite a distance from me, if I need to get in.

I'm sorry, but people posting on this forum have in fact been told they "qualify" for such an account and that it would increase their chances of being accepted for other products, the first of which is disingenuous and the second just a plain lie, and then had the monthly cost of the account totally glossed over.

I bank with Nat west and they explained all the accounts I was eligible for to me, all the features or each and any costs. I was then left to make my mind up.

Maybe I am lucky if you say this is normally not done properly ?

I wouldn't say "normally" like it was standard, but it does happen.

The difference is, I CHOSE to open the Plus account (which I've since dropped) of my own free will after being given the OPTION to switch to it, with all the facts to hand, after I'd opened my account, with no mention by HSBC of my "qualification" for it. In fact, when I went in to upgrade my account to a plain Bank Account (back when it was a Basic Bank Account), no mention was even made of Plus at all. It was entirely my own choice, with no prompting from HSBC at all!

That and I never said paying for an account is a bad thing in itself, if you use the benefits; being duped into paying for one I have more of a problem with.
