Help please.

I made a payment to my credit card to clear the balance.I then sent them an online message asking them to close it when the payment was received and cleared. The messaged back saying this would be fine.
The money was cleared for 2 days before I accidently used the card as it was the card registered to my online bookies.

I feel they have cost me this money as they did not do as requested and like they said they would. If they had closed it I wouldnt have lost it !

Do I have a leg to stand on with regards to claiming it back/taking legal action ?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe they needed a bit longer to shut the account?

They claim that it takes up to 10 days for the payment to clear. But my argument is if it was in my account 2 days after payment and available to spend it was cleared.

They then had 2 days from when it was in my account to close it.

If you were successful, it will open the door for people making free bets without any risk of losing the money. I can't help but think you will be unsuccessful in your quest.

Clearly you wanted to make the bet - maybe the right thing to do is to pay the balance on the credit card and move on.

I've not made the bet then asked for it to be shut though.I requested and they had two full working days to close it and they didnt. They're error has cost me money.
I made the deposit by error as I thought my current account card was registered to the bookies. It is my fault that I continued and put the bet on but if they had closed it I wouldnt have been able to.

And how long does it typically take for them to close the account?

Basically opening my account on their computer, moving the mouse pointer a few inches, and clicking close ......

In other words it would take seconds.

NO! Your error in backing a loser cost you money.

Gamblers ... Blame everybody but themselves when they lose.

You wouldn't be moaning about the card company if you'd have won.

Have a read about Graham Calvert... You may be enlightened.

If you had a continuous payment authority on the card and not a stupid bet the card would have been re-opened and the CPA debited to it.

How does the OP know that the card was not closed and then re-opened when another transaction came through?

Perhaps it was because you wrote: "I feel they have cost me this money".

AmIAWINNER - sounds as if you weren't in this instance. I guess that makes you a loser.:rotfl:
