If you are just sending a plain letter in an envelope you will still need to get it weighed as the weight margins for pricing are quite narrow. You will also need an airmail aticker that the Post office will supply.
Obviously if th eletter contains anything else of value then you'll need to get a certificate of posting to cover you against loss en route. If there is anything more than just a letter / photo or a card or suchlike then you will also need a customs sticker duly completed.
