We are up to service pack 3 for XP it can be downloaded from microsoft here

Its the network installation meant for pro's but its the same thing really just has all the patches included in one bundle for all configurations of XP that have SP1 installed, i stick it on disk so i never have to redownload it and have so far upgraded 30+ laptops and PC's with no issue.

In that case just do the windows update via internet explorer or the start menu. It just saves time and bandwidth to do it once if you have to update lots of computers like i do.

I wouldn't download SP3 if I was you, I installed it on my PC and it killed it. I have it running in a virtual PC at work (i'm an IT Techie by trade) and it seems OK on there but there are so many people having issues with it. Install all the hotfixes etc via Windows Update but click NO to SP3!

    It's the same Service pack!

The "For IT Professionals" version just has ALL the files required for the update. The one you get through "Windows Update" may require you to stick in the Windows CD.
I always go with the "IT" one! so i can store it away and I don't need to keep tabs on my many Windows disks.... :D

I installed sp3 on 3 computers over last weekend, downloaded to desktop, disconnected from Internet, turn off antivirus and firewall, no problems at all, everything running fine, (remember to turn on firewall and antivirus before reconnecting to the net.

I have been using SP3 with XP Pro for quite a while now (updated to final version a couple of weeks ago) and have found no problems at all with it. I also downloaded the full version [315Mb] so that it could be easily installed. Have it on two machines at home networked and they both run a lot smoother in my opinion -- Dave
