Leave the car off, put some rags where the petrol is leaking to soak up fuel, go to your nearest motor factors or Halfords and buy a new filter, undo the bolt at the bottom and top and do up the new filter.

That in my experience is how easy a fuel filter is, may be different on your car.

    Call the AA?

A filter is less than £10.

How much is his life and those injured when the petrol ignites worth?

tell him to get a lift from a work mate to get a new filter in the morning,is the car definatly petrol, not diesel?
if its diesel then he may be safe enough to drive it.
if the filter is corroded then i would also get it serviced as it takes a while for a filter to corrode,so the oil filter could go the same soon.
