We had a marquee in the garden of the village pub and the landlord had his daughters and grandaughter offering canapees and handing out the champagne! The grandaughter, I think, felt very proud as she got lots of attention!
My boss did something similar. Marquee at a local farm. Hog roast. And a teepee full of craft activities for the kids. It went down very well.0 -
Just wanted to say congrats to you all, hope you have a lovely wedding and a happy life together.0

Reading "take a break" today I see that a couple had a fancy dress wedding! Looked such good fun ..even if the costumes were hired it was cheaper than a one off wedding outfit! Re the kids you could have craft tables as already said - colouring and nice pens and a bouncy castle really keeps the kids amused-spend about £100 and get a really fantastic one with slides and tunnels - keep them amused for hours (and the REALLY big ones are ok for adults!!)!I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes

A wedding i enjoyed had a room with a kids buffet, games consoles, tv, dvd, toys and a couple of teenage girls to referee/play with the kids. They felt v important, the adults weren`t woried about how their kids behaved and everyone had a good time. I think they had a clown/entertainer at some point also.0

Thanks so much for the suggestions - Prince Charming comes complete with a 20ft bouncy castle so had already thought of that! - need a venue big (and cheap!) enough to contain the bouncy castle, space for dancing and for sitting / eating / drinking etc..... will let you know how the plans develop... :rolleyes:0

AND some reliable supervision, so no-one ends up in Casualty!cinderella31 wrote:need a venue big (and cheap!) enough to contain the bouncy castle,
You may need a quiet area for the autistic child - obviously you know their needs better than I do, but it can be quite stressful if things don't go as they expected!
But my main suggestion is to plan the wedding at a sensible time for eating! I've never understood weddings at 12 noon - you KNOW by the time all the photos have been taken that you won't get any food until 3 pm, and I tend to be a bit on the crabby side by then, never mind starving children!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
i recently got married, and had 15 young children to entertain. I'm talking majority of 5 and under.
We found it eally useful to make party bags for the kids - we managed to pick up large cheap gift bags from pound land - 3 for £1. I then scoured cheap shops and put in cheap sweets to keep the kids going, colouring books and pencils, small yo yos, cuddly fimble for the real little 'uns.
we put in party streamers too - which even the one year olds could grab the end of and unfold.
parents were extremely grateful and we found there were no mardy kids during the wedding breakfast/speeches.
we also did a balloon drop, so at the evening disco the small kids spent loads of time playing with the balloons.
cameras you can pick up really cheap if you look online at sites like confetti - just do a search for them.
also, the mother in law bought small pots of bubbles (i think from ASDA) to put on the tables, which were loved by kids of all ages.
Congratulations - best of luck :T0 -
We attended my cousins wedding in september, they provided a creche for a few hours so both children and parents could have some fun. The creche was supervised by child minders.
The kids had there own buffet ,party games and plenty of other kids to play with.
Congratulations and good luck for the big day.0 -
At my first wedding one couple brought their 10 month old baby. Rather than just put a place card in the highchair tray, I bought a little teddy bear and wedged the place card in his paws. His parents were thrilled to bits when they found it.
You could maybe do something similar if you are having place cards. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I'm getting Married in July (aaaahhhhh), like others I have made up bags for the kids. I'm going to buy giant snakes and ladders etc to keep them amused.
Why not buy a play house so that if your autistic son/daughter finds it too much they can get away from it in their own little house (see links)
At least this one will keep the kids amused to

Or you could just go for something basic like this one

Hope this is of some help
