Hi MooMoo & welcome to the board,

All the experts have already been in I see but thought I'd let you know I'm also on prepayment meters for gas & elec for the same reason as you & I've been with Scottish Power for the last 11 months as they are the lowest provider for prepayment meters, I frequently get calls from my previous suppliers & even they admit Scottish Power are the cheapest ! Just an extra thought but a site called Earnawad.com pay you for just visiting certain other sites & one of these is Scottish Power who are currently running a competition to win £1000 of free power for a year,

well done for making the first step towards debt busting & good luck

beanielou - I have 3 children plus partners 70 per month x 12 = 840 per year divide that by 3 = 280 per couple for Xmas and birthday is that really too much??????

i think so! even if you spent £20 on each persons birthday and £50 each at christmas (which is generous) that would reduce the amount to £35 a month.

the other trick is to always be on the lookout for offers ie. good quality items at low prices. i regularly visit ALL sections of TKMaxx for designer/unique pressies at a fraction of their real cost.

re. pets. i use frontline for fleas as i find it cheaper plus i always extend the gap between doses just a little each time. i only worm twice a year (my vet says they only do their dogs once a year) separately. i spend £120-130 a year at the vets for full jabs and annual flea and wormers for 2 large dogs - that's only £5 each a month for all that at vets.

    good luck x

I can see how this can become a diary - not good news, I have applied today for an egg card need to transfer mbna credit card 29% apr ,(mbna is a part or virgin so no go there) and have been refused by egg, also applied to my bank again refused. Now I ask why???? I've checked my credit rating which despite no failure to pay, in otherwords all my cards and loan have always been paid, I have a ranking of 3 out of 5?????????? and my bank has refused a loan.
I have discovered all my totals are placed on my rating, so perhaps it's nothing to do with rating, but the actual ammount I have already borrowed.

Talk about being kicked when down, now recieved notice I have to pay back £1,200 overpayment for Tax Credits re 2004/5 first I heard about this was last year, I wrote to HMRC last june disputing the overpayment -Today 11 MONTHS later I receive a reply it's got to be paid back!!!!!!!!!! Stomach now churning I feel sick.
  • Don't panic about it. There are dispute forms you can put in again and also they allow you to pay back in installments. Have a look on the tax credit board and see how other people have sorted it. I think if you go on their website there will also be info about it.

Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:

You're right, I believe they also look at current borrowings in relation to your earnings and if it looks like you're paying a lot back each month already they tend to steer clear.

I had this same problem a few years back - credit rating was very good but I simply had too many different debts. Credit card tarting was never going to be for me! Hope things get better for you soon :o
