Can yo change your mobile phone tariff? £50 a month is a lot, especially with another £20 on land line - can these calls be made on the mobiles on free minutes?0
-
Hi
Moxie - Great minds think alike, I've just completed the cccs on line form, which the way it is formated, maybe because these are my debts only take into acount my income and God Forbid have recommended Bankrupty, now I really am concerned.
- Fuel costs will take a look many thanks
- Pets, sorry I forgot to mention flea control and worming, I use Stronghold which is a combined treatment £28 per dog for 3 months supply, never heard of obtaining a prescription from the vet - surely they will not be too happy with me if I do this? As for using natural products, having many years ago a serious problem with another dog , because I just bought over the counter product, VERY wary about changing, but many thanks for your advice.0 -
hello!!:hello:
Righty ho madam, lots we can do here to sort things out!!! are you ready?
I used to live in the South east, on the coastal edges of kent where the oysters be if you catch my drift, whereabouts are you? I completely agree re the pet insurance, on thing i would never be without... however are you shopping around for flea treatments/wormers/feed. There is a fortune to be saved by not buying at supermarkets and buying on-line. have a google of pet food etc i think you'd be surprised. Also what food are they on? some "supermarket" brands can go straight through a dog with little nutritional value and work out more expensive in the end as pups needs to eat more for it to have an effect.
That council tax looks a little high for the rent that you are paying. do you a) have arrears on the council tax? or b) get a sizeable discount on your rent?
If neither of the above have a look at martins council tax guide and see if your property is in the correct band. I used to have a 2 bed terrace that i used to pay £80 pm for as a single person or roughly £110 as a couple.
Same with the leccy and gas. look at moneysupermarket and the like to see if you are paying the cheapest. have you been overpaying and so able to request a refund if in too much of a positive balance?
Likewise with contents insurance, that is a tad ouch!!!!
Ok the car... do you have any scrapyards near you? if in kent try bobbing car breakers, eastchurch autos or queenborough sidings. they should all break cars of the sort you currently have on your drive way. They may well have in stock a gearbox taken from a scrapped car. Source your gearbox and then call around your local mechanics (one man bands that come to your house that sort of thing) and see how much they may charge to fit the gearbox for you. this would get the car back on the road and enable you to sell it and maybe clear the finance and make your costs back on the repair. it should be much much cheaper than the 2k you have been quoted.
Most places (whispers) will do the work cheaper if you pay cash as it means they don't have to put it through their books. try to get all this agreed beforehand so you can work out your costs.
That grocery i think really can be bashed down, do take part in the challenges, they are great and really helps. things like bulk cooking ad freezing, only buying minimal fresh food so it doesn't go off, storecupbard challenge, ie he long can you go on eating just out of the store cupboard before needing to go shop (3 days ago i had a dinner of pickled onions, followed by a desert of custard as that was all i had left!!:rotfl: )
follow the OS board and i hink you'll be surprised.
Why willyou loose your job for having an operation, have you spoken to the CAb re this? seems a little unfair
DO any of your credit cards have available balances that you can transfer that nasty 29% one onto? even spreading it across 3 cards will save you money and mean you have more money to throw at the next highest APR card.
But best and most of all, welldone for keeping on keeping on... you are at a site with a whole wealth of help and support. (theres even a giving up smoking thread;) ) so stick with us here and we will see you through it.debt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0 -
Re Pets - WHOW, just checked out on line and I can now get my fea/worming product for £15, instead of £28 NOT happy that for years I've been paying over the odds to my vets, forget feeling guilty about asking for a prescription MIZMIR thank you so much you're a *STAR *0

Hi MM,
Nice to have you aboard. Great that Mizmir has already found you a saving. Pania and Others Thank You SO MUCH for all your help so far. (Gosh I reckon I could save enough money here to happily give up my day job JOKE JOKE)
- I'm in Sevenoaks honestly it's not all full of wealthy persons. The rent is low as I am with a housing association and have no arrears, council tax I believe is correct as my neighbour pays about the same.
- house insurance didn't realise it was expensive, but have to say I've been with Sainsbury's for about 5 years. I have made 2 claims and must say they were wonderful, I've just renewed, would this mean I have to wait a year to change if I find cheaper?
- Car, yes we did investigate getting a secondhand gearbox, but it's a citroen c5 estate and could find nothing, have thought about ebaying it for spares to try and recoup. Here is perhaps a naughty question, if I were to stop paying the finance, would they just repossess it, then my repayments would end???????
- My job, I work as a nanny/housekeeper and they would not be able to manage for a couple of months with no one there, so would expect them to replace me.
- Credit cards, sadly there is no available credit to transfer, but I have thought about trying to extend my bank loan as it is only 6.9% and use this to clear of mbna.0 -
Floss2 - sorry Floss forgot to mention, phone is high as I have 2 children now living in Jersey, who somehow always manage to get me to call them back *s* hence the high cost as it's not classed as part of the UK, and doesn't come under international0
-
are you on orange? do you have an unlocked phone? (ie will take any sim card?) if so look into their international calling sim, much much much cheaper than standard international call charges.
If not download skype and get kids to do the same. you can talk for free wherever you are in the world, puter to puter. xxdebt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0 -

Stronghold is half that price at vet medic pharmacy - you can probably get it for less with a little searching. Your vet may not be thrilled but they will be used to it - a lot of people are getting regular medications this way as it is so much more affordable. Ask youself if you would rather pay your vet the extra £9 a month or have it yourself?0 -
Pania - with 3, sorry phone is locked, sadly tried skype a year ago, but it just didn't work, also my daughter belivee it or not hates computers and I believe my son would rather play computer games, but I have to say when they start to ramble I'm becoming very good at making a nice excuse to cut the call and not waste money0
