3 returns policy?

Hi, I have just taken out a new contract deal with 3 over the web and had my phone delivered today. Haven't turned it on yet or inserted the SIM, but having read the leaflet enclosed in the box, it states that if you make a call or insert your SIM, you void your 14 day return policy. I want to make sure that the signal is good enough in my area etc before I decide on whether to keep it, and I was under the impression that I was covered by distance selling regs? what should I do? I am temted to just return it to them as is a forget about it, I dont want to be saddled with an 18 month agreement for a phone that I cant use. Any advice appreciated.

rang 3 and they confirmed that if I was to make or receive any calls, I would void my 14 day trial period, so I decided there and then its going back. Not happy with that at all. They assured me "the computer" says I am in an excellent coverage area, but I know from experience that what their systems say and the reality can be 2 different things. what a swiz!! Staying with 02.

I was going to suggest you use their online coverage checker but it looks like they've already done that for you. Still might be worth having a look for yourself here

it gives you a choropleth map to show the different signal strengths.
Their 14 day policy does sound like its on rather shakey ground legally, but in practice it isn't really worth the effort. However, on another note, now that they've said that you have excellent coverage, if you try it and find that it's wrong, you could therefore argue that they've sold you the phone on false pretences and demand your money back after you've tried it. So its up to you, but it looks like you've already made your decision. Hope that helps and some of it made sense!0
