Do Playstation 2 games work on a Playstation 3 console?

    The majority do but not all of them will.

    40gb ps3's WILL NOT play ps2 games, but they will play ps1 games. 60gb ps3's will play ps2 games but you will have to be lucky to find a 60gb as they have been discontinued leaving just the 40gb model on sale

    Yup as stated, only the 60GB UK model will play MOST ps2 games the new 40GB UK model will NOT play ANY ps2 games.

    How's it a con? Surely if you buy a PS3 you're going to buy new games anyway? If you want to keep playing PS2 games keep the PS2 connected to the TV as well as the PS3.

    Yep, they even give instructions in the manual on how to do it and how to split it so you can install linux on it if you want. Worth checking the net to see which HDD's people have tried already.

    Unfortunately playstation 2 console has broken - no sound which is why we intend replacing it with playstation 3. As we have a lot of games we were hoping to still be able to use them.

    i believe most of the playstaion 2 games will play on the 60gb ps3, apart from the platinum range of games, me personally if i could afford a ps3 would look for a 60gb version, as i would not want 2 or 3 consoles lying around, hth Dave

    Have you tried another AV lead? Could just be the audio pins have broken.
