Meant to say that I had no reply to my emails to Breville about getting a repair done to my broken bm so last Saturday we went out and bought the cheapest cookworks one from Argos (£23-99). It seems fine, though my first two loaves had collapsed tops - probably too much yeast. I tried again yesterday using about 2/3 tsp instead of a whole one and the loaf looked much better - have put it in the freezer so not sure what it will taste like yet. I can't tell you how relieved I am to have a working bm again. Unless I move somewhere next door to a real bakery I can't imagine buying shop bread again.

Hi everyone, not been on for a while as i've been making the most of my freezer bargains. I didnt realise i could cram that much stuff into such a small freezer, i was suprised. I would normally be getting my shoppng delivered tomoro from mr t but after going through my cupboards, freezers and fridge and listing everything i've got i've easily been able to put off my shopping for another 10 days, and cut my next shopping list almost in half:D . I would just like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone on here, all of your advice, ideas and recipies have been a life saver:beer: . I'm still trying to get my head around meal planning though as we all tend to want to eat different stuff at different times (doesn't help that my oh works shifts) so planning anymore than 24hrs in advance has not worked so far. Will keep on at it though.
Anyway had to pop out and get somemore milk and bananas yesterday (will update sig). Fingers crossed i will come in way under budget:T
Just a quick question, its not very os but every now and then me and my oh like to get a take away. Do you take this out of your food budget or do you have a seperate budget for little treats/luxuries etc... Thanks

Glad the bread worked out:D :D

Have you tried asking the school canteen staff for the recipe for the cookies? - I did/ do this for anything my DC are particularly fond of and they're always v helpful -but you do need to scale back the recipe somewhat if they give you their proportions, otherwise you'll be baking enough cookies for a school!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: ....yum, not a bad idea!!

Good idea- hadn't thought of this:T

I don't include takeaways or eating out in grocery budget. Although have not been organised enough to set a separate budget for this. Next month I plan to start recording spends for clothes, socialising, gifts and wine on Word documents- so I can set money aside for each. However different people organise this differently- depends what suits you. If you have one takeaway per month for instance you could just add this figure onto your july grocery budget.

Thanxs Fluffysox will do that. We're actually trying to cut out take aways altogether. last year before discoverign this website we could easily of spent £150 plus a month on take aways:eek: and we wondered how come we always had to resort to using credit card:o. Dont have spreadsheets on my laptop but will try and get hold of a disc so i can install it so i can record all of my spending properly.

just back from my whoopsie trip to Mr M's.....:j i got 2 boxes of the Bold 2 in 1 Infusions and they should have been £5.49 but i got them for 9p each :j i also got 4 tins of tuna for 9p ............mind you, i was hovering near the reduced section for about 20 mins waiting for the lad to reduce stuff right down :rotfl::rotfl:

then went over the road to Farm Foods to get their cheap frozen mince ( i always cook a tiny bit and mix it with the dog food so that my fussy yorkies think they're getting real meat!! also bought a Cadbury's gateau for a pound for DS's birfday. he's 15 today, and he said he'd rather have HM choc chip muffins instead of a b'day cake so as the gateau was only £1 i got that as well.......and no, i don't normally buy cakes, its against my principles!!

well, dogs are climbing the walls for their walk, so i'd best brave the wind! catch up with you all later xx
