Well I'm going to do my first mini shop for june (probably a takeaway to be honest) tomorrow. £104 here we come! I WILL stick to it this month. I think my first thing to change this month is buy bigger bottles of milk, we always end up going to the local shop and topping up half way through the week anyway so just cheaper to buy it all in one go.

We're going away to stay with my sister next week, I havent seen any of my family for 6 months, I'm soo excited! I'm going to make a car picnic for the journey down (its only about a 5 hour drive but still..) are picnics still called picnics if its night time though? hmm..

    Hi all,

I already cook from fresh every day and don't buy processed foods so I have been thinking how I can save more money on the food, and I think I will have to try making more and freezing?

Plus, looking at last weeks receipt a horrendous chunck of total gc money goes on fruit and veg - any tips on saving on this (without getting rickets!)?

Hope everybody is ok and looking forward to a new month !!

We went to MrT's last night but I actually managed to get some great whoopsies !!!

We spent £20 but in that we had 15 punnets of Raspberries reduced from £2.99 to 15p each, 5x baby swedes reduced from 60p to 3p, a stew pack of veg for 5p, a basil plant reduced from £1.49 to 5p, a box of Organic Mushrooms reduced from 89p to 4p, some lamb knuckles for £1.05 and 5 bunches of flowers reduced from £4.99 to 25p a bunch :)

DH was so excited when he seen the bargins we got !!! I shared with my mum and she had some of the flowers, a couple of swedes and some raspberries but here now I have put the lamb, veg and mushrooms in the slow cooker, 2 lots of raspberries in the BM on the Jam setting, 5x lots of raspberries in the freezer, 2x lots of raspberries eaten by the kids on porridge, swede in the freezer and the floweres are looking and smelling georgous (huge lillies and tulips!!)

    I love bargins :)

Hope everyone has a lovely day - I am off to do some housework.

hello, count me in for £225.00 this month please. I did well last month, but I think I was starting to get a bit lapse towards the end. Need to motivate myself again...

    welcome to the newbies:D

Re- giving money to teenagers, I was thinking of giving the child benefit as lil-me said or what wp said my teenage son is always asking for money evey day, we have so encouraged him to take his own lunch but he keeps saying no and often goes without through his own fault only to come home and practically empty the fridge in one hit:rotfl: :rotfl: we are moving soon and I have said to him £10 a week or £40 a month whichever way he wants it but that has to be for his cinema/entertainment etc the rest school wise/footwear etc I will provide until he can get a part time job to fund his own extravagant money grows on trees life style:rotfl: :rotfl: I think he has to learn the value of money before the real world hits him in the face:rotfl:

    Hey Gang.....

Yesterday was NSD:j & todayshould only be the weekly local rag & one or two dailies. I get the Mail & Express on Tues & Sun Thurs for the health sections, but there's a bit in the Express today about signing up for abolishing road tax hikes or summat....only caught the tail end on the breakfast news. If I've time before I leave I may just read about it on their site:p but I like having the paper to do the puzzles & stuff when I go up to bed......well? A gerl's gudda do sumfink int she!

Might be worth having a look on the bbc breakfast site--some chap who makes a living out of foraging for free food...are you listening Weezl:D

The burgers were scrum-diddly-o-shus & another 'must-have' to go on the list. Pup had everything the same except I leave out the onion, which is poisonous for dogs but strangely they can have garlic:confused: go figure THAT one:o
    • One handful of dried soya mince mixed with one handful of couscous. Add enough boiling water to just let it swell.
    • Approx 200g MrT value beef mince for us & the rest for Pup the rest from the 500g was used in the previous night's lasagne
    • Half a medium onion roughly chopped, but could've done with being smaller 'chunks' but we don't mind 'rustic'.
    • Generous sprinkling of dried mixed herbs & liberal splash or three of Lea & Perrins.
    • 2 medium eggs beaten
    • 2 largish finely grated carrots
Mix all ingredients well, form into sausage shape & wrap in a bread bag. Leave in the fridge for as long as possible, then slice & firm the 'burgers'. I cooked ours on the griddle shelf over my roasting pan so the excess fat drained off, on Gas 6 centre of the oven, for about 40mins.

Hope you like them as much as my lot did!

Just to say Asda were doing colgate toothpaste in the pump dispenser (much more economical with my kids) for only £1 yesterday. I couldn't find the 4p curry paste in tins everyone keeps talking about though!
It's just as well I am starting my challenge on the 1st-I have had to spend £17 on postage this week as I am in a CJ group and birthday swap agreed prior to my life imploding! Each CJ has to be posted SD at £5-6 per time and I have had 2 this month as the lady posting to me got beging following illness. I also returned an item to QVC for £38 refund and have vowed not to buy anything from them again (had only bought one item since November so not a great loss to them or me!)
Question is,it's pouring here, kids are fed up and I only have £7 until my Child benefit 4th June. I have bread,milk,freezer-full and store cupboard so no food needed-but what can I do for them that's fun? Poor kids have done nothing all week.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

A no spend day for me yesterday and today hopefully. May have to buy a loaf of bread later as have teenagers in the house and they seem to live on peanut butter on toast.

Cleared my fridge out yesterday, once again I had loads of manky veg. I had to throw some away but made a pasta sauce out of some of it, which I had for my lunch and again for my tea. Also have some carrots/broccoli and cauli that are past their best. Planning to use those up with some sausages for tea, with new potatoes. Also had to throw away seven eggs - sell by date 18 April so too old to even feed to the dog  Have another three just on their sell by date so might make a cake this afternoon. I think I need to join the don't waste food thread.
