Hi.
10-14 days. That's way too long. What are the possibilities of this being shorter?
Any other alternative methods?

Not if it is a scam and the seller doesn't intend handing over the item.
It is easier to collect £400 with Paypal, pay the fees and scarper with £380 odd than to try and con £400 in cash face to face with no item to sell or hand over.

^^What I was thinking
espicially as "The seller insists on Paypal, saying he wants a quick payment"
TBH if it was me I'd tell him you can only pay cash on collection, but you'll be round to collect it asap0 -
"TBH if it was me I'd tell him you can only pay cash on collection, but you'll be round to collect it asap" Thats what I would have thought even for collection and payment within a week really.
I'll ring him and see how he responds. I assumed it would be cash on collection, his insistance on Paypal would have been argued by me but it made him happy, I won on the friday night of a bank holiday and wasn't able to get to the bank until Tuesday.
I'll phone him.

VF, be very careful.
Most ebayer are honest and most transactions go through OK.
But £400 is a lot of money to risk and there is a sniff of a potential scam about this one.
Cash on collection is really your safest option and you should not be alone when you collect if possible.
In your shoes I would arrange a collection time and date for as soon as possible and stall the seller on the Paypal payment.
Good luck0 -
So...
Pay by paypal. Collect in person. Make a paypal claim that the seller didn't send the goods. The seller has no proof of postage, so you get £400 quid's worth of stuff for free.
The seller's *mental*.They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -

I totally agree. I thought my hubby was bad enough taking £16 through PP for a collection only item but £400?!? Nowayhose!
You should have heard the rows we had over £16 :rotfl: Maybe you did?

Hi all.
Thanks for all the replys.
I also fail to understand people preferring to be paid by collection. I think its worse when your the seller and the buyer wants to collect but can't understand that you will only accept cash. You can see the alarm bells ringing for them about you being honest telling them the truth!
I had one seller who insisted on Paypal when I collected my items from him. He told me if I "paid him cash he'll spend it, if I paid him Paypal he wouldn't"!
Anyway the tranaction has ended with a cash sale. I did send him a 4 page text about lots of points including pointing him towards this Forum. The reception quality when I phoned him was awful hence the text.
And he 's a happy seller who's £13.50 richer at the expense of Paypal. Waaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhay.

When going to press the reply button to initiate posting the previous post I pressed the Thanks button on Shelleys post. Looking back I haven't Thanked anybody yet so now I'll have to thank everybody to make it fair.
Not that I had't planned on Thanking people if I thought there reply was helpful. I'd have done it when my attention was better as I've done a 360 mile trip in a tiny car in between posting these threads.
