AOL Free Laptop vs Bad Reputation

  • I got this deal last year with the free PS3.
Check the spec of the Laptop as I believe its quite a low spec/poor quality Laptop and you could probably buy better for a couple of hundred if you shop about.
Remember the Laptop is not free - you are paying for it monthly as their contracts are more expensive to reflect the 'free' gift.

I havent had any problems with the AOL service, my broadband (touchwood!) has always worked and speed etc is fine.
I am not happy with the fact I am tied into a 2 year contract and paying over the odds (£32.49 per month) for Broadband and calls. Its my own fault - I signed up in a moment of madness and now regret it and cant find a way out.
    I would appreciate any advice?

  • The laptop's not free - you're paying for it monthly through over-high monthly broadband fees.

Why not look into a cheap provider like Tiscali (I use them and they're very good), and use the money you save to buy a laptop - if you really need one, that is.
  • I was with AOL for 6 years - I cancelled in July. The reason I cancelled was because I got disconnected every few minutes, and their customer services was worse than rubbish.

I transferred to O2 - great!! mu husband has an o2 phone, so we pay only £7.50 a month. The speeds are way better than AOL and I never get disconnected. Their customer services is free too.

Incidentally, I have just phoned AOL, as they have just taken over £10 out of my account - I left them in July (and I had £30 of credits on my account, so I didn't owe them anything). It has taken me half an hour to get a refund!

I would definately not advise anyone to go with AOL. Go with someone else, and save yourself loads of money and stress.
  • i have used aol for around 7 years now and have had no problem with them and found their customer service to be good, horses for courses i suppose . I did also consider the ps3 deal but the only package available to me would have worked out rather expensive, perhaps thats something you should check out before you decide
