Credit Report Fault

Hi

I have always wondered why that when I apply for a credit card or a current account I get a instant "Refusal" by the bank/credit card company.
After 4 years of not knowing why, I simply put it down to just having one default against me and one late payment but when I came onto this forum and heard people with a number of CCJs and defaults and huge outstanding debt were able to get a credit card with Capital One for the Classic Card, I then applied for one last month, to received news again that it was "Refused" after a second credit check, this is when I started looking into my credit report more closely and I noticed on my oneline credit report that it said "You are not on the electoral roll at your current address " however up until two weeks it go it said I was, but changed for no reason.
I telephoned Experian and was told that after in depth checks there seems to be a mis understanding somewhere as they have me as on the electoral role but after looking at it closer eachtime anyone checked my credit report, it appeared as I was not, they are now investigating the issue as to why I do not appear on the voters role even though the council have confirmed I am on it and Experian confirming that they have me on it to, there appaers to be a fault with anyone viewing my report not seeing I am.
My questions are,

1. Has anyone else had this?!

2. Can I claim against Experian after its sorted as I have had a number (99) searchs in the past 12 months, 50% refused?!

3. Will they remove some recent searchs as I was likely to be refused not being on the voters role?!
And if so, has anyone else had a same problem?!

:confused::confused::confused:
It is clear this is the problem and why I cant obtain credit because as the start of the post I only have one default and I cant even get a credit card with a high APR.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks in advance:confused:

I reckon the main problem you may have is the default. Is this showing as settled or not? I have previously been refused due to the default . Thankfully its now gone . Problem I have now is too many searches!
I would maybe make a complaint to experian - blameing the excess refusals on the ER problem . Although I doubt they will relent.

I am awaiting a formal reply from the investigations department.
My default is not settled, it is for £1.500.
It is 3 years old, but even before getting it I was unable to get a credit card.
I am now guessing that there is some kind of mix up at Experains end and I am not showing on voters role when anyone checks.

The only thing I can say is that whilst being on the ER does help enormously, it hasn't hindered me recently. I moved a few months ago and whilst I appear on the ER with Experian, Equifax hasn't updated to show I am registered. However, I've still managed to get a loan and a CC but I've had to send additional ID to confirm my identity.

TBH, I don't think Experian can be held accountable as they don't actually make the credit lending decisions. You'd be better confirming to the lenders you applied for that you are the electoral roll (if that was the issue) and supplying proof of registration.

Also, Experian will only remove searches at the request of the lender although if it's been 3-6 months after application they probably won't count a great deal anyway.

I think it's just a glitch in Experian's system since they redesigned their site.

A couple of weeks ago I logged into Experian and the opening 'Members' screen said I wasn't on the Electoral Roll. When I clicked on my actual report it came up as me being on there. Very confusing and worrying. I was ready to go mad at Experian but realised that it's only me who sees the Members screen. It has since gone back to normal now.

Are you saying that on your actual report it doesn't list you on the Electoral Roll or just on the Members screen?

disclaimer - I work for Experian. This is my opinion, not Experian's.

The voters roll is a small part of the scoring that lenders do, using data that we share with them.
I would expect the default, and number of previous searches (99 in 12 months !?) to be the main factor, and in this case, probably the number of searches.

In summer 07 I "ruined" my credit score for a few months after pursuing a 0% purchase credit card, and racking up 4 or 5 searches in a short time.

You say that the voters roll confirmation was OK until a few weeks ago, so that suggests it was not a factor in earlier declined applications.

One idea might be to add a notice of correction on your file, if possible, which means it should be taken out of automated decisioning and be looked at by a real person.
Karma is a wonderful thing. ;)

    Did i read that right?
You've had 99 searches on your file in the last 12 months?

Usually you can have 3 within a 6 month period before your credit score is affected - sometimes a bit more if you have a very good wage. 99 in 12 months?
After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

    Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
    Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0

    Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/2011

    :o:o:o:o

Yes 99 searchs in just 7 months!
around 40 of those are repeat searchs because the bank had told me I would be accepted if I re-tried in 3 months.
Most of my searchs will come off in around 3-5 months time.

Maybe so, but when I phoned Experian the other day they have now started a investigation as on there systems it says im on the voters role, but when they go in to it more it shows that I am not whenever anyone searchs my credit report.
I have always wondered why when I opened my current account a few years ago I passed the credit check but had to prove who I was by ID in branch, I think somewhere along the line there be a mess up, I wont go asking them to remove the searchs that I have failed the credit check on so long as they fix the fault ASAP.

I had no debt or late payments nor a default until around 4 years ago, I applied for a Capital One card back then and was refused I seriously believe that it is down to a mix up on voters role, as people with CCJs and huge debt can get hold of high APR cards and I cant get hold of any:confused:
I just hope Im put on the voters role ASAP before I apply for a Capital One card again in a few months.

I believe the voters role information has stopped me getting the card I wanted and current account.
I was likely to get the current account I have now and that was only because I asked them to manually check the application and even then I had to take ID in to branch I think because the electoral role isnt showing for some reason:confused:
