    Sorry to confuse you Jenny

I meant in cases when a HDMI is included as standard with
the hardware your buying, then there is no need to buy a expensive
cable to replace it thinking it will give you a better picture.

Ive got a hd dvd player and the ps3 and to be honest the picture quality on both of them is very good through the both formats.

Im also very impressed with the upscaling on both players which make normal Dvd's look crisp and very clear.

That sony dvd recorder as very good reviews and i know it as won a few awards, i was going to get one but ive spent too much money this year already.

Ill have to stick with my sky+

As for the cable discussion, i dont believe it matters as long as you havnt got a faulty cable, i know in a lot of big retail shops they try and push the expensive cables.

A bit like the special shoe polish they sell you when you buy your shoes.

    confused

Although one of those formats is now dead and gone to Betamax heaven. :D

Hi just bought a new JVC LCD tv & want to upgrade my dvd player to 'HDMI HDD DVD recorder with hard drive. I still want to play dvd - RW discs etc on my old dvd player in the bedroom now & just wondered if any one could recommend any particular player. I have been considering Sony ?

Also is HDD becoming slowly obsolete with BLU ray now on the market ?
A little confused as to go for one or the other, but realise I wouldn't be able to play recordings from Blu ray on my old dvd player.
    Really would appreciate any help

    Thx

I think you're getting confused here, 'HDD' is short for Hard Disk Drive. If you actually meant 'HD DVD' then don't touch this with a bargepole, as this is the rival Hi-Def DVD format to Blu-ray, which has just lost the format battle ;-)

If you did mean HDD, then unless you get a High-Def source, HDMI isn't going to make a blind bit of difference, it's just the connector format! You'll still be recording standard definition unless you've got Sky Digital or similar.
