The 13 banks included in the Faster Payments scheme are: Abbey, Alliance and Leicester, Barclays, Citi, Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks (National Australia Group), Co-operative Bank, HBOS, HSBC, Lloyds TSB, Nationwide Building Society, Northern Bank (Danske Bank), Northern Rock, and Royal Bank of Scotland Group (including NatWest and Ulster Bank).

You can try the Sort Code Checker above (by bubblesbonbon), if you're not 100% sure!

I'm trying to move £10K from my NatWest CA to a Coventry BS savings account, and it has really confused me because although I only made one transaction (the payment) my NatWest statement now shows £10K paid out and immediately below it £10K paid in  , so the original balance is unchanged.

This is making me nervous. I'm not bothered about speed (within reason) but I just want to move the money and see the correct balance on screen.

Just to add, Halifax & BOS (HBOS Main brands) are only set to receive via FPI, there will be provision to send via FPI later in the year, so I read.

Further to my post above, I've just phoned NatWest and they say the new system can't handle automated payments to building societies now, as they are not set up yet for fast transfers (planned for July apparently), so the payments just bounce back. I asked them how I could move the money then, and they suggested CHAPS at a cost of £23!

Looks like I'll have to send a cheque instead. What a shambles .

NatWest FasterPayment is not working for transfer (as bill payment) to HSBC, the system say it will take three working days as normal. Grrrrr

Someone at Natwest is pulling your leg - Coventry BS does accept Faster Payments. Did one myself this morning.

I think you were lucky then Bernard. Mine definitely bounced straight back. It must have been the electronic system pulling my leg if so.

Have you checked your Coventry account to see that it has gone in?

Edit: Just checked the sort code from the link above, and it says it does, so I apologise. I assume your payment did not come out of NatWest then, meaning the problem is at their end.

  • Yes, straight in. I quoted sortcode 406301, (you can use the checker mentioned above if you don't believe me :)) and the account number I quoted was my nine digit Coventry number with the first digit removed.

(Just saw your edit - definitely seems to be a problem at Natwest's end. Dodgy systems and staff giving out incorrect information. Ho hum).

And then trying to charge me £23 to do what I ought to be able to do for nothing  .

If you are reading this NatWest -there are other banks you know.

Using the SC checker, it looks like neither of my banks can receive fast payments (Citi and A&L)
