If the cat is killing and bringing it in then that's a good sign, it's a social standing thing! They bring food to the Alpha Head Cat (i.e. YOU).

It should only be worrying if they kill and don't bring it back that means they just like to kill and they tend to be a pain in the butt .

Has the cat got any play toys in the house? get some cat-nip infused toys for it to play with indoors, the cat may be just needs some distraction..

Our kitten brought a live bird in today

It had a traumatic experience and we thought it was dead (we were too scared to go near it!) but a friend of ours came to help and it was alive so he chased it around for a while and caught it and now it's safely released in the park (less a few feathers) :p

I'm surprised Jager managed to catch a bird, she bounces around like tigger and has no hunting skills!

NO Birds!!!!! NOt sure if it's just because it's raining heavy but there are no dead birds in the house or the garden!!! :D:D
Thank you everyone for your advice hopefully it will carry on working. She's still trying to get the collar off but its stayed there so far! She is now nick named 'Jingle' :rotfl:

Glad it's working.....hope it stays so, it's so upsetting when they bring birds in, but - after lots of yelling - most of my cats (6 :rolleyes:of them) have now, I suspect, simply learnt to kill them outside of my view...or that's what my neighbours tell me.

One handy hint - after a few months, the more intelligent of my lot learnt to be able to move and even pounce without making their bell sound - god knows how, but they just slinked in a silent manner. I got around this by putting *two* bells on their collar , next to each other - they could stop one sounding, but the two always jangled aganst each other, however hard the cat tried.

    Hope this helps,

agree with the poster above - we put a big reflective tag on our cat's collar next to the bell so he can't move without making a racket! he's not brought us any little 'gifts' since, so it must work! :)

Well despite a collar with bells on, my cat can still catch birds, particularly favouring pigeons. After a nasty incident last night, where we discovered one of his well hidden captures (which has been there for a while....ewwwww) I went and got him one of those collars which emits a noise and has a flashing light when he makes a pouncing movement. He doesn't like it too much but at this time of the year it's ridiculous the amount of wildlife that's arriving in the house (sometimes alive, sometimes dead - last year I rescued/released about 5 species varieties!). Also, we're locking the cat flap at night so they can only go out - if they go out once we're in bed, they won't be allowed back in til the morning - the murderous one probably won't care too much and will just stay out all the night, the more homely one will quickly learn not to venture out of the cat flap once we're in bed. Lol.

I hope you've bought a collar which will easily break or stretch should she get herself caught up on something such as a branch or fence. The injuries that unbreakable collars can cause are absolutely horrendous and can sometimes lead to amputation of a leg or, even worse, death if the cat gets stuck and is not discovered in time.

Our cat killed a mole the other week! She is only small and I think it must have been too big for her to drag to the back door!
She has stopped killing birds as we put a bell on her collar which is so loud you can hear her outside even when you are indoors!

  • My cat has a thing about seagulls. She shot out house so fast the other day chasing one that she exited the house wearing the cat flap :D:confused:

One of mine fancied her chances with a partridge last week

Suffice to say she didn't get anywhere near it before they flew up to the rootops screaming their heads off :D

I did almost step on a dead mouse carefully laid on the back doormat this morning though! I just hope it was the one I spotted snaffling fallen birdseed near the shed the other day ;)
