I have spent most of this weekend looking at hotels in London and havent got a clue?
We are coming down from Yorkshire for a weekend, August 1st for 2 nights. We need to be fairly close to Emirates (or easy accessible) but don't want to drive right into London because don't understand congestion charges and scared to death get lost and confused, DOH! The hotel needs to have parking facilities and obviously a good price. There are 2 adults and 2 kids.
Any advice or recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks

sounds like driving in london isn't for you , obviously the train would be expensive for four of you but have you considered getting a coach (national express) down to london . it can work out pretty cheap- you will be spending £50ish on petrol if you drive . once in london get yourself an oyster card and use the tube or bus.
if you still prefer to drive check tfl 's website for c charge details and how to pay . do you have sat nav ?
i used https://www.lastminute.com last week and got a 4star hotel for £62 /night for a single room which i thought was good value. other people might think thats expensive but its less than a lot of hotels charge.0 -
www.travelodge.co.uk family room sleeps 2 adults and 2 children at Park royal (click on saver rooms) £49.00 for 1st August, £65.00 for 2nd August. Has Parking and 5 mins on opposite side of the road is the Park royal tube station on the Piccaddilly Line (same line as Gloucester Road stop). There is a leisure park opposite (on dual carriageway road) with bowling, cinema, pizza hut, chinese buffet, KFC, Burger place and petrol station beside it. Wembley has £49 rooms for 2 nights available but that area has a higher crime rate. Kids under 11 travel free on tube and Oyster card the cheapest for adults if more than 1 day and travelling during peak hours. Over 11 pay £1 for all day travel with an oyster or £2 without. You can order your Oyster in advance £3 deposit for Oyster cards on www.tfl.gov.uk0

I too have been hunting for London Hotels for a stay in June and between the members on here and members on Bobsfreestuff....so far I'm down to £110 for 3 night stay for me and partner !!! - Not bad....Travelodge - London City Airport has the Thur £29 Fri £29, Sat £49 for a double room for us both.(
Britannia Parking Ltd operate the hotel car park on behalf of Travelodge. Parking is charged as listed below. Midnight to 15:00hrs 1 hr £1 2 hrs £2 3 hrs £3 4 hrs £4 24 hrs £5 15:00 - 12 noon next day £5 Evening & Overnight rate Please note: Guests are not permitted to leave vehicles in the Car Park and fly from the airport. Car Park is for residents only and vehicles must be removed from the Car Park upon Check Out of the Hotel)
Southwark one isn't too bad neither(But no carpark)...prices about £49 per room but good for tube links. Family rooms would be around the same price and if booking 21 days in advance try out for £19 Saver rooms when searching.
I'd agree about the driving though - might be cheaper/less hassle to get the coach.0 -
Just had a quick look at Travellodge for your dates and they seem pricey enough.
Checked out Holiday Inn using the info supplied by MSE member Glennthebaker in this thread

For two nights for the price of one - supposed to be for stays up to 1st August - I put in your dates and for the two nights for all 4 of you - it comes to £109 - That's for the London Earls Court one.

or try another hotel for same offer - seems if you book your 1st night as 1st Aug - they give you 2nd August free anyway.

The earls Court Express by Holiday Inn one does work out £54.50 a night or £109 for 2 nights for a family of 4 with free breakfast thrown in. it has 30 car park spaces and is £15 per day for parking. You would also have to pay the congestion charge when arriving on the Friday. You need to use the link supplied by Debs68 in her post to get his rate.Just had a quick look at Travellodge for your dates and they seem pricey enough.

If you are scared of central london why not park at Luton Parkway off the M1, it saves a lot off your car journey and then get the train in. You won't want your car once your in town anyway, then you don't have to worry about getting lost.
You will be coming down the M1 anyway so this would be really easy.0 -
PS I come from just outside London (but don't live there anymore - parents do) I would never drive in to London unless it was after 6pm and I wasn't staying overnight. I am not scared of it and I know central London fairly well, it just isn't worth it. No one I know from my area drives in. It is busy, confusing, very time consuming, expensive or impossible to park, expensive congestion charge. I can assure you once you are at the hotel if you have a parking space you won't want to use your car anyway and will use the train. So what is the point of having it?
Where we live is closer than Luton but Luton is easy to park at and is close to the M1.0
