low priced london hotel with car park?

Hi, does anyone know of a London hotel we could use if we visited. Family of 5, 2 adults, 8 yr old, 16 yr old, 10 yr old. Wd prefer to come in the car cos cheaper than the train but then we would need to park it. Hoping to come during half term week...26 May to 1 June time for a night. Reasonabley priced but nice...kids think travel inns/holiday Inn express the height of luxury when we've stayed in them!

    Hi,

You sure that it will be cheaper?

You will have to pay the congestion charge - you will also have to pay to park at a hotel - most central hotels will charge you for parking - could be anywhere up to £25-30 a day.

    hi

    where are you coming from?

it may be cheaper if yopu found something like a travelodge, just outside London.

most of them come with free parking, if outside London, and if you book 3wks in advance u can sometimes get a discount, maybe even a night for just £19.

that way you wouldn't have to pay parking charges or congestion charges, but you would have to get travelcards to get into and around london, but i'm guessing you would have been doin that anyway.

Just an example, but Romford Travelodge is £39 (discounted from £55) for any day in that week. Romford train Station is just 20mins train journey to Liverpool Street Stn. from there you can go anywhere on the tubes or buses of London.

Obviously there are plenty of other Travelodges nearby, such as Ilford, Chesunt, Watford. its what suits you best.

    hope that helps

  • try this one (Brentwood, East Horndon):

    https://www.travelodge.co.uk/make_a_booking/availability.php?hotel_id=17&doa_dd=28&doa_mm=05-2008&stay_len=1&no_of_rooms=1&disabled_1=N&disabled_2=N&disabled_3=N&disabled_4=N&corp_code=&corp_id=&rate_plan=&travel_agent=&agent_type=&agent_code=&btnCheckAvailabilityB.x=68&btnCheckAvailabilityB.y=10

its about 5mins from the M25, so easy to get to.

its then about 5mins drive to a station called West Horndon, which is 25mins train journey into Fenchurch Street.

    and away you go....

Hi, sorry...we are coming from near Nottingham (Midlands) It's £82.60 with a family railcard so don't know if that works out cheaper than car? Train fares have gone up since last time I travelled!!!

    hi

well we have friends that live near nottingham, and i live near that travelodge in brentwood i mentioned in above message. It takes us about 2 1/2 hrs by car to visit them.
And even with expensive petrol, it won't cost you £82.60 to drive down.

Up to you, but i guess its a good option, if you don't mind travelling 25mins into London from West Horndon station, for the sake of free car parking, and no congestion charge to pay.

    good luck

    hi

good for you, glad i could help!

if you need any other info, just ask....

As I say, that Travelodge (East Horndon) is 5mins from West Horndon Mainline Station, which takes you to Fenchurch Street.

West Horndon station has a Car Park (£2.00 after 9.45am), but if you are lucky you can get parked in the road outside the station.

BUT, if you don't mind driving about 15mins from the Travelodge, you could go to Upminster Station which is the start of the District Line into London.

Only difference with that is, the District Line is very slow compared to the Main Line, but its just another option for you.

Main Line Trains from West Horndon go approx every 20mins, but it only takes 25mins to get to Fench St.
District Line trains from Upminster go approx every 5mins, but it will take you about 45mins to get to the underground equivelent station, which would be Tower Hill.

Fenchurch St and Tower Hill are right near Tower of London, which would be a great place to start your day !

    Have fun!! :j

If you are going to the Tower of London using off peak all day travel cards (aft 9.30am at station, kids under 12 free and under 16 £2 for a travel card) you can show this card with the voucher printed off from this site to get 2 for 1 offers at London attractions such as the tower
    http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/search-results.aspx?genreid=14&attractiontypeid=21&page=4

After the tower, hop on the no 15 red bus (free using travel cards) and go to marble arch on it. It is a cheap tour option, as it goes past a lot of the London landmarks eg. law courts, trafalgar square, st pauls. Then you could get picnic items at the sainsbury store on the corner of marble Arch and go across the road to Hyde park. You could walk to the Serpentine (boating lake) and carry on walking into Kensington gardens to see The Diana Memorial gardens.
Another day out could be going to South Kensington station (plan your journeys in advance using tfl site maps) and go to the free nearby science, Natural history and vand A museums. The science museum has a lovely picnic garden by the cafe area.

Another nice day out would be using the 2 for 1 offer on the site previously stated to buy an all day hop on and off thames river clipper boat card. Embankment stop has the houses of parliament and Greenwich is great as it has the maritime museum, Queens house, Royal observatory etc. If you want a free Lunch ( depending on waht you want &drinks extra) inside the 02 dome at the slug and lettuce pub- hop off the clipper at the 02 stop. Register for a £5 voucher per person, print it off and use it on the day (only valid for 2 weeks after requesting, so order week before going).
    http://www.slugandlettuce.co.uk/o2/join_our_club/ .

You can often get £20 tickets for top London shows if you go to the box office on the morning of the show. Curently ticketmaster are doing £20 tickets for Grease for your week (must be booked by Mon noon to get offer). You go down to countdown offer box and put in sandy as the offer code.

The London zoo and Madam Tussauds are popular with most of my visiting family. Again you can use the 2 for 1 offers.

The Ramada @ Ealing Common is not too bad and parking is £5 a day whilst being next to Ealing Common tube which means the west end and city is easy to get to.
