Ebay removed my listing

I can't believe this! I spent ages yesterday struggling to get Auctiva to work and got the grand total of 4 items listed.

This morning I find ebay have removed 1 listing because I have used the words 'as new' in the title.

The item is a 4 year olds dress and it was worn twice. It was as new, but I did click on the used button, but put as new in the title.

Has anyone else got any experience of this? Is it a change, because when things are in a nearly new condition, i.e. worn once or twice, I always put that!!!!!!!!!!!!

'As new' is considered keyword spamming on ebay and is the easiest way of getting a listing pulled. Something is either new or it is not, by adding 'line new' or 'as new' in the title it will be picked up for people searching for a 'new dress' and that's why ebay remove the listings.

This is one of the most common reasons for having auctions removed, so if you take that phrase off the auction you can safely relist.

Soolin is exactly right. I had a listing pulled for the same reason. I was annoyed at first but when you think about it as Soolin says if people are searching for new items and your item came up in the search it could be construded as deceiving (albeit not intentional)

I still think it's one of Ebay's daftest rules and there only because people can't be bothered to use the search facility properly.

"Nearly new" and "As new" are perfectly good phrases and do add to the description of an item, the fact that Ebay allows you to use those phrases in the description shows there is nothing wrong with them.

If something is "As good as new" it doesn't say that it is new so again there is no confusion.

I know you can't beat it and I know you have to obey the rules, but in the scheme of misleading and problem listings it's quite petty.

What I don't understand though is why Ebay don't just sort it once and for all by removing all the "As New" etc straight away without waiting on someone reporting them at the moment there are over 8500 "As new" and a few hundred "Like New" and "nearly new", surely they could have a script that ran every hour or so and just removed them.

While they are at it they could remove the 2000 items that have "VAT will be added" in their listings.

If Ebay put a little effort into removing listings that breached their policies then it would be a much better place for everyone.

Asking for cash for posted items is strictly against the rules, there is a list of acceptable payment methods and any deviation from them will get auctions pulled quite quickly.

You can, unless they have fiddled again, still ask for cash on collection, however from the 3rd June you won't even be able to insist on that and buyers will be free to use paypal on all items, collected or otherwise.

I understood that the reason "as new" within the item title is considered keyword spamming for the simple reason it would come up in any title search featuring the word "new"

Unless you do the obvious and put "-as" in the search string.

It doesn't seem obvious to me if I were searching for a new item to have to exclude all the 'as' 'like' or 'near' new searches as well.
