Just out of interest, when I click on the items in the right hand side of the registry pane, it only highlights the first bit of the line. Not the whole line itself.
Is this normal or should it be a right click
Leo
Yes right click to Modify, Delete etc. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Thanks, got that bit
Ok, how about renaming instead of deleting, by that I mean changing the capital 'E:\' to a capital 'C:\'
Would this help or would it just mess things up further because other stuff is possibly named in the 'C:\' folder.
I have no objection to deleting these registry items as long as it doesnt knacker my system up further. I will back up the registry first.
By the way all of my work is backed up to 2 seperate hard drives just in case all of this turne to bo@@ocks

Just to be clear the 3 registry entries that I would be deleting are named as follows
E:\PC Backup 12 April 2008\MY MUSIC
the other 2 are identical apart from the bit after the date...one is MY PICTURES...the other is MY VIDEOS
Edit..registry now backed up using system restore and link provided by expresso..(thanks)

If you have backed up the registry and are confident about restoring it then give it a go see if it works, a reinstall will usually just put them back in anyway, might be worth considering what caused this in the first place, may be you are supposed to install the software before attaching the phoneclick here to achieve nothing!0

I think that you are correct, it was very possibly my mistake in the first place. I am also confident i can restore the registry.

Why faff about with the registry? Why not just use the substitute command to temporarily get the installer/uninstaller to point to drive C: instead of drive E: ?Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)

Agreed! However it wasn't giving me the option to point the installation to the 'c' drive, it was automatically looking to install to the 'e' drive.
Anyway, problem solved! Hooray
The final solution was to delete the invalid 'e' registry entry. I deleted all three mentioned above and all is well. (At this stage anyway)
I have just installed the Nokia software installer to the place where it wanted to be installed and it went in like a dream
Thanks to all who contributed to this thread, I hope it may help someone else in future

I had this problem the last few days. Funny enough I saw this thread and turned on PC that has this problem and it didn't occur. I just happen to have usb pen drive in when booting up XP and seems that may have been the reason. Done a lot of copying files on to it lately0

I'm really pleased you got it sorted, Leo. But just for anyone else who gets the problem, the substitute command temporarily changes settings on the PC so that references to the 'missing' drive (E: in this case) are routed to C: instead. Usually, the installer or uninstaller needs to create temporary files and log files. You can see the same error message sometimes while trying to install or uninstall from CD or DVD.
Once you log off, the settings are reverted again.Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)
