Proof Of Income When Renting

I wonder if anyone can help. I am going to look at a few flats next week and I worried that the agency I take a flat with are going to ask for proof of income. I have only recently returned from travelling (so haven't been working for 6 months) but do start a new job on the 2nd of June.
I am worried that the agency is going to ask to see bank statements (which I have but don't really want to show them) or that they are going to ask to see pay slips (the last one I have is from last December).

I would be fine with them doing a credit check and can afford the flat no problem but I don't want to be turned down because I can't provide them proof of income as I won't be getting paid for at least another month.

Can anyone advise?

    They are looking to make sure you don't have any real problems with meeting bills in the past and your ability to meet rental obligations into the future.

    Just provide them with the contact details of your new employer. Shouldn't be a problem further than that, unless of course you went bankrupt 9 months ago.

    Never been bankrupt and never had problems with money luckily.

    Cool, I will give them the new employers details. The agency requires a month and a halves rent as a deposit and also a months rent up front as well.

  • we recently moved to another part of the country for my oh to take a new job after being made redundant a year ago and struggling to find work in the same field in that area. The letting agent just contacted the new employer to confirm he had a job offer, what his start date was and what his salary would be.
    remember that alot of people who move rental properties are moving jobs also, so its nothing unexpected for an agent to have to contact a new employer- its irrelevant and pointless for them to talk to past employers as no doubt the income will be different.

    I've always had to supply the last 3 months bank statements and reference from my employer.
