My boyfriend bought me 21 roses, (probably what i liked the most) I had some charms for my bracelet and one said 21. This is bad that i cant remember now, i was only 21 in september ha.
I didnt get as much for my 21st than i did my 18th. I do regret making my 18th the biggie, but i did get a car so im not complaining now!0 -
How about 21 present to open? They don't have to be expensive, maybe a lipstick, favourite chocolate bar, bubble bath etc etc then the last one could be a keep sake? You could take them to the meal with you and it should be a great talking point.
Hope she has a nice birthday

My mum bought me a lovely silver bracelet and had it engraved with "Happy 21st Rachel, (date)".
She took me to the jewellers and I picked it out myself, it was one of those old-style new & second hand jewellers, it only cost £15 but it was the one I liked the most!0 -
I bought my DS1 a pair of silver cufflinks, even though he'd had an 18th. It was so he had a "keepy" present.0

My favourite present from my 21st birthday is a Me to You photo frame, with "Happy 21st Birthday!" on it, a teddy holding a key and is lilac (my favourite colour). I've got one of my favourite photos in it and it makes me smile everytime I see it.
I think it's my favourite because the person who bought it for me really thought of what I'd like. I did have other, probably more expensive presents but the thought that went into this one I appreciate more.Purple Penguin Power!

My 30th my parents brought me a Armani watch, (only becoz it was 1/2 price), then as a surprise my mum did me a 30 box, I went away with friends for my 30th, lugging presents with me, when my mate and I opened my 30 box, my mum had put the whole 30 presents as knickers!! The thought was there xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

I'm not sure that expectation comes into it at all to be honest. It will come down to affordability and parental choice/values regarding gifts and how to spend money. I certainly wasn't expecting the gifts I received and was very shocked on the day to be honest. Even my Dad's boss sent me a cheque for £100 or £200 and I don't think I had never met him. It's a sentimental time which people love to mark with generosity. I have no recollection of what my friends got, nor did I at the time, quite bizarrely. It was almost 20 years ago now!
I chose to 'celebrate' my 21st as opposed to my (16th or) 18th. My parents gave me the choice. They bought me a lovely pair of diamond and pearl ear-rings. Something to treasure in the long term, and sell if I ever needed to (Mum's words not mine). I think it's important to have something tangible for the long term and second the suggestion re: Links of London. I also got other jewellery, an antique picture from an Aunt who works in Antiques and a good pen from my sister. My Grandma gave me some money which I spent on a small diamond pendant/necklace.
We had a small gathering at home with close family and a few (4 maybe) close friends. My Mum made a buffet. I then flew off to NZ for the first time the next morning to see OH. No-one told me the clocks went forward, so it was a bit of a rush when I awoke with Champagne head to face a 24 hour flight.
Oh have a lovely time! 21st's are so special. It's great to be able to celebrate the good times.0
