Had a health check and now PC worse! Help!

Options
I was having problems backing up to disc so decided to take my PC to the firm who look after my works computers. They said the DVD writer had failed and replaced the DVD writer. All good so far ......
I thought whilst they had it it may be wise to have a health check done on it, though everything seemed fine. Here started the problems ....
I went to collect it and they said they had removed some spywear but that everything else was fine.
Got it home and found -

1. Can't get Internet Explorer - Got an error message about a Google add on. Went into manage addons and disabled this but still got the same. Disabled all the google addons and found i could then get on to Internet Explorer but that pages did not open as they should and I could not set any other page as my homepage - I had always used Wanadoo.
I have gone back and enabled the Googel addons for the time being so that when it goes back to the "experts" it is in the same state as it left them.

I rang the firm and they said they may have deleted some spywear which had affected IE and that if I went over I could pick up a dis with IE7 and once loaded this would solve it. I did and NO IT DID'T. By this time the firm had shut for the long weekend.

I am currently using Mozilla Firefox which I had previously only used for my Internet Banking as this site did at one time have issues with IExplorer.

2. I then tried to open my MS Money programme and got the following error message -

MS VisualC ++ Runtime library
Runtime error

Programme C:\Program files\MS Money\System\msmoney.exe
This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact applications support team for more info :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Total panic set in - I rely so heavily on my Money programme to keep me under control.

I had a look in the Programme files and could not see a file labled .exe only .dll files but I may not have been sure what I was looking for exactly.

When I rang the firm they said they had done nothing which could have affected the MS Money programme ...... I can't accept this a sit was perfectly OK till they got hold of it.

Obviously, I will be going back on Tuesday and will be insisting they sort out the problems but in the meantime I would really appreciate any suggestions you experts may have. It would help me when I take my PC back as I am not very computer literate and just panic when things go wrong.

No. That is a good suggestion. I had not even thought of it as i just went into panic mode yesterday.
I am pretty unsure on what to do for a system restore and thought that if I did this and it still isn't right, will they wash there hands of it?

Go into System Restore, and look for a restore point from before you took the pc in. Restore your system to that point, and try that. If it seems to be okay, then maybe you'll need to check for updated drivers for the new DVD burner. Try it and se how you get on. BTW, what security suite are you using, and operating system??

Macafee security and Windws XP Home.
Thick question - if I have not physically done a restore point, will there be a current one to go back to? I am terrified of doing this ...

I have tried that but the System Restore page appears but is a total blank. Nothing on it all all.

when you go through System Restore, you should chose the Restore my comp to an earlier time. The next page will have a calendar on it, and the dates in BOLD type will have restore pionts on them. You have to click the date box to show the restore points available for that day

    In regards to IE.

Go to Menu then "Tools"," Internet Options" then the "Advanced" Tab and "Reset" This should reset all your IE.

For Money have you tried putting in the original disc to and running install to see if it has a repair feature? This should repair your installation and sort out any problems.

Or if you go into "Control panel" and then "uninstall program", select the program and select the "change" option it might give you a "repair "option in there.

You can undo the Restore if it doesn't cure things.
