ZoneAlarm Security Suite just £12.99

I have seen many posts on here extolling the virtues of the free firewall available from ZoneAlarm and the free anti-vuris package from AVG.
I am particularly impressed with ZoneAlarm and its intuitive interface and have been looking at their other products, such as ZoneAlarm Pro and and ZoneAlarm Security Suite.
But these packages look expensive compared with the free products, so I wondered if they could be found even cheaper. Well, the good news is they can!
I have found the ZoneAlarm Security Suite available on Amazon for just £12.99 plus p+p. I have ordered two copies. It is not the latest version (6.0) but an earlier version (5.5 I think) but can easily be upgraded to version 6.0 for free via the Zonealarm website!
The £12.99 price is from a private seller. If you don't trust private sellers just search the Internet for the cheapest price from a recognised dealer; Amazon themselves sell it for £24.97. Just remember not to buy the latest version (6.0) because you can always upgrade for free during the one year licence period.
ZoneAlarm Security Suite Version 6.0 has only just been released and costs at least £40 even when heavily discounted! So, the moral is, don't always buy the latest version of a piece of software if you can upgrade to the latest version for free!

That is very good value.
I wouldn't recommend upgrading just yet to v6 because a lot of people have reported problems and a few weeks ago ZoneLabs was forced into asking for volunteers to test out the latest release of v6.
The most stable release of v5 is v5.5.094.000, the latest release of v6 if you feel brave enough is 6.0.667.000.
I upgraded to v6 and that was a mistake and it took me ages trying to get rid of v6 to go back to v5.5 because ZoneAlarm won't allow you to install an older version when using v6.
Another moral is always having the latest version of software is not always the best option!0 -

Very good point bbb_uk! I am already using version 6.0 under trial, so I concerned now that I cannot install version 5.5!
Maybe, when version 5.5 arrives I can just use that licence number and register my trial version of 6.0! But, from what you say, version may not be worth registering yet!
On one occasion version 6.0 did have to close itself down (following an error message) - I never had that problem with ZoneAlarm's free firewall!

I'm not sure with it being the free version. All I know is that I upgraded from v5.5 (even though I have no probs with it) to v6.0.631.003 (latest at that time). I had a few problems and tried to go back to v5.5 but it wouldn't allow it. Even uninstalling it didn't make a difference because its rare that when uninstalling a programme ALL files, etc are deleted sometimes a few files are left over, etc.avi wrote:I have the free version of V 6.0.667.000. In the end I uninstalled it, deleted the ZA folder and had to search my harddrive for vsmon (apart of ZA) related files about half a dozen of them and delete them (I personally had to luck at the properties before I deleted to ensure it belonged to either ZA or vsmon) and it took me a good few tries to do it and what seemed like forever looking for files that were related to ZA in someway or another.
I can't comment much on the very latest version v6.0.667.000 as haven't tried it and trust me I have no intention just yet.
What was worse was the version I tried was constantly asking for permission whenever a M$ programme, dll or other files like svchost, etc used another programme, file, etc even though it didn't want to access the internet. This sounds great but just that the new security defence introduced in v6 meant everytime something used something else it would prompt you. As most software (including M$) uses libraries/files/components, etc from somewhere or someother programme or component, it meant I was prompted all the time.
An example is IE6. I allow IE6 access to the internet (not server access though) without prompting but this new version warned me that IE6 was using another microsoft component. On v5.5 only things that communicated with the internet (incoming or outgoing) prompted me but nearly every programme I ran with v6 used (and therefore prompted me) another component or software (which like I said earlier is normal).
Anyhow, I've had what turned out to be a rant - sorry. lol
For those interested in v6 then I'd visit the ZoneLabs forum here and go back a bit and you'll see the problems people were having including with simple/basic stuff like Outlook wouldn't work, etc.0 -

I would guess that you could just type the licence code you get with the Amazone version (5.5?) into version 6.0. That is what I hope when the Amazon package arrives.0
