Cancelled daughters insurance but now she needs it!

Hello
Can I have your thoughts on the following please?
My 18 year old daughter has had insurance for the past 9+ months. During this time she has had 2 cars, and her premium increased slightly with the 2nd car, a 2000 Peugeot 206. She originally paid 2 months in advance and then had 10 months left to pay.
1 month ago, she decided that she wanted to live and work in Ibiza and so handed her notice in at work. She travelled to Ibiza on 11th May 2008 and I cancelled her insurance that night. They confirmed this in writing, asking me to return her certificate and advising me of the fee, and how much was due.
However, she has not been able to get a job and therefore accommodation in Ibiza and is booked home on a flight landing early tomorrow.
Mid last week I emailed the insurers, explaining the situation and asking if her insurance could be reinstated (she will not be able to afford the 2 months first payment of any new insurance). They wrote back and said this was not possible and confirming that the policy had been cancelled. I emailed again and asked was it possible to "cancel the cancellation" as it were, as it had been done less than 2 weeks ago. Again, I was told this was not possible.
Does anybody have any experience of this. Am I using the wrong terms do you think and not making the situation clear to them. Would there not be a kind of cooling off period like there is with some things?
And please, I really don't need any lectures about the fact that she shouldnt have gone to Ibiza, shouldnt have come back so soon, shouldnt have a car if she cant afford to insure it, etc, etc, and anything else I can think of, I am just asking about the above;) , thank you in advance for any help.
Carol

Why on Earth would an 18 year-old go to live and work in Ibiza alone, without any plans?0

Not at all ChrissyG, just thought the idea of this forum was to give advice!!
If you read correctly, I said that I didn't want to hear about whether she should or shouldn't have gone to Ibiza or that she shouldn't have a car if she can't afford to insure it! I was asking for advice with regard to the insurance, and thoughts, as I can see many people on this forum do!!
If you haven't got any advice for me, I would rather not hear from you. I was actually hoping that someone who works for an insurance company could advise.
Just out of curiousity, if you applied for any bank charges back, and they said no, would you just move on???
Jeez, sorry to rattle your cage, anybody would think I was asking you to pay for her insurance :rotfl: !

Hi,
Sorry but I doubt they would reinstate (I work in insurance), if the insurers had made an error then maybe they would rectify it, but as you cancelled it then they wouldn't generally allow it to be revived.

Thank you BeeUk. This is the kind of advice I was after

Best wishes

Nope as the insurance company has said there is no option to cancel the cancellation.
All she can do now is keep the car off the road until she is in a position to begin another policy with the same or a diffrent insurer.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000

I'd second the above that they are not going to undo the cancellation unless it was an error on their part.
Try phoning her previous company for a quote for a new policy and ask if they will waive the deposit and just allow 12 monthly installments as they can see she (presumably) had a good payment history and you would like to stay with them and made a mistake in cancelling the first policy.0 -
