Hope they're a bit more pro-active than the last 'free wine' offer they had! Took several months and lots of emails! And when it did finally arrive, it wasn't really worth the wait _pale_
  • I have been a current account holder with Smile for years and very happy to remain so. However, isn't this yet another example of "stuff" our existing loyal customers and just look after the new ones?
Why can't some of these organisations, for example, offer a case of wine or say £25 to customers with "x" years of never in the red patronage?

I've been with Smile for over 5 years and have found them to provide an excellent service so an offer like this doesn't make me unhappy at all.

I've had no problems with Smile, apart from when they charged me a commission to buy currency at the Post Office using my debit card. I know most banks do it, but I still think it's a bloody cheek.

That aside -- excellent though Smile may be in general, they're not above the avaricious tactics that other banks also employ to gain new business. But as I said before, I wouldn't be too upset about the wine -- it's the sort you'd take to a party, then avoid all evening! ;)

This time a Virgin Wines voucher will be sent so the account holder can order it directly themselves.
    Ethical moneysaver

These Virgin wine offers are popping up elsewhere too - Egg are doing one for life insurance but the T&C are lousy (if you cancel within 6 months you have to pay the value of the vouchers back). I think you can expect a few more to turn up, as Virgin are presumably subsidising promotions to prospect for business, so eyes peeled everyone!
  • Was lucky enough to be sent a referral email by smile the last time this promotion came up - 6 bottles to the new account holder and 6 to the referrer though before. The wines were all "medal" winning wine and FWIW they were actually quite nice :) But then, its been said I'll drink anything... :D

    Also - depsite all my to-ing and fro-ing - I can't really fault smile.

  • Thank You for reminding me. I never recieved the 6 bottles they were offering last year!
    Have just e mailed them.
    Will wait and see........
  • I'm not unhappy at all with Smile or their wine offer. I don't drink the stuff anyway and in my opinion a more palatable liquid goes into my car's radiator to stop the water freezing! I was just trying to make a general comment about all the financial and other institutions which don't seem to care that much about existing loyal and long time customers.
The only time I've gained anything like this is when I was a Midland Bank customer, was guaranteed their credit card and as a gesture of goodwill, on opening the account would be credited with £10. I accepted, purchased £10 of petrol with the card and closed the account. Left the Midland soon after, but that's another story.

It's for their ordinary current account not smilemore which costs £7.50 per month.

    You can apply online.

(Hope this is in the right place  :D )
