Will I be able to transfer my current O2 number to a new O2 sim via a virgin payg sim

I have an O2 contract which will be ending soon and will be asking for a pac which I intend to use so that I can park my existing number onto my virgin payg sim Then I intend to move the number on to a new O2 sim.
After reading the forum here I have come across two potential downfalls to this plan.
1. Will O2 accept a number that had been pacced(if that is a word) away?

2. The virgin payg sim has already been activated. Will this be a problem when I want to transfer my O2 number onto it?

Can't you get another NEW PAYG virgin SIM? They are giving 1000's away for nowt :money:

Or why not ring up O2 and ask them to move your account from contract to pay as you go and therefore not renew your contract? Surely that would be simpler and not require you to mess about with pac numbers.

I'm going to assume that that you're porting out of O2 so you can port back into a new O2 contract ( maybe cashback/e2save etc..).

To your first question, you can only port into O2 at the time of the sale so you'd need to have your PAC code when ordering.

If you happen to be with CPW:O2 then you should be able to port to O2 without having to port to and from another network.

If you still want to port into Virgin, then you should check with them to see if you need to spend a minimum amount with them before you can port out (I've read comments from others about this.)

As to your second question, you should just call Virgin and ask them.

You may find it easier to port to another network.

Virgin is the best network to use in your situation. It doesn't matter how long your Virgin sim has been active, you can port in at any time. I don't see a problem with taking the number back to O2.

Virgin do not require a minimum spend before they will issue a new pac, they used to have a minimum spend requirement before they would issue an unlocking code but thats something entirely different.

Firstly thanks to all that replied.
From all the replies it seems that I should be able to go ahead with my original plan as I have confirmation from virgin that dave_dph is correct about virgin not requiring a minimum spend.
Cavey, I am only using the payg sim as a stepping stone to a new O2 payg contract. Dialaphone currently have those 99p per month O2 contracts and it is those that I am after.
