Each time I have spoken to them they had told me to check Experian. Surprisingly they left me with the option of 'cash withdrawls' to my limit .Never would do that. They said this was because I had a good record with them! The latest decrease , I actually got a letter warning me that in a weeks time they were dropping my limit and withdrawing my cash facility - so if I was surely such a bad customer would I not try and run up to my limit?
Anyway I have drafted a letter of complaint also - yes I understand credit is not a privilage and I am not desperate , but I feel whilst the account is still open I deserve to know what info they are working on and where from. I also have queried as too why they see me as a 'high' risk when my other creditors and own bank don't!I admit in 2000 I did lose my job and fall behind - but got everything sorted by the beginging of 2001. Just glad I don't bank with Barclays as well .
As they say - don't have all your eggs in one basket!
Interesting to read other people with similar issues with Barclaycard.

now that's an interesting one....the madness of the pre-approved offer....as far as I know, there's only myself and Mrs Bismarck who know the full extent of our circumstances as we do try to follow the eggs and baskets rule...anyway...I've a whopping overdraft limit and at the New Year had a pre-approved offer of alarming proportions...all I had to do was click a few times....and it would be in my account....don't know if it assumed certain things from last time I filled a form in (e.g. job details, income etc) as I never got that far but the thought of such a quick loan was scary....

Then, having had the offer withdrawn for a while, it reappeared in March...and in May they upped the offer again! They've now removed it completely and I apparently have to apply separately (not that I will) but I do wonder what is going on?

i have also had my credit limit dropped twice last year by the infamous barclay card. Now when i first got my card i was a student working earning £10000pa and got there student card with a £600 limit. On my 7th statement i missed a payment that did not arrive on time, when the full payment did reach them my credit limit was dropped to £420 then 4 months after that it dropped again to £280 and has been so for a year now. I am now also employed fulltime earning £24000pa and the only adverse info i have on my CR is a satisfied default that comes off next year and 1 missed payment from last year

I've had this account since 06 but also have two other CC capitalone, Halifax one.

I hardly use my barclaycard anymore and have started to wonder if i should close this account or just wait for it to expire next year.
    :hello:

It does make you think about using the card - I mean lets say I wanted to make a high value purchase and decided to use my B/card and then found at the checkout it was declined . Thing is , from what I have read - Barclaycard seem to be doing a Egg. Whether the cardholder has a good credit file or not . Sometimes I wonder if these computer programs can be trusted .I recently read that Experian will supply a score on the likelyhood of the person going bankrupt!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
They even removed my cash facility not that I would use the cash on the barclaycard. Strange! I have mastercard with capital one for years and they have never reduced! (touch wood)

Must confess I do log on to my Barclays current account and Barclaycard most days to check if anything bizarre has happened...sadly compulsive but I am trying to figure out what triggers the changes....no luck yet.

agreed it was surprising that they warned you beforehand.....it was just asking for you to run the card up to the limit - they must have felt that you were a safe bet even if you did...limits still unchanged but daresay if I used them up, they'd get a little agitated....I don't get the point of a limit if, when you use it, they get twitchy and start issuing warnings about being close to the edge when you know full well that this is the case and you're using the limit for a reason.

Well when my letter is answered and subject report , I will post back to see if there is anything interesting to share!
  • Just as an update. Barclaycard have stopped replying to my e mails. Capital one have refused me a card and tesco gave me £4500 limit no questions asked.
I have also applied to Barclaycard with a new application just out of interest but I'm happy with my Tesco card now.
