Mine was reduced from 3,700 to 3,200 in a letter dated 28 May w.e.f. 30 May - today - the date the letter arrived.....

It's on LOB and reducing only slowly - so if they want to reduce it again later they'll have to wait several months as the new CL is very close to the current balance.

That's a bit surprising...I'd have thought on a LOB, they'd be making a fair amount of money in interest and you're a good prospect for repeat business...have you done something elsewhere which may have made them think that they need to do this?

I can understand them reducing limits if it looks like you're going to crash through them or were showing general signs of struggling but paying off a slowly reducing LOB offer which they're still offering makes no real sense to me!

What I can see with B'Card - they seem to be the most nervous at the moment .Either love you or want to p*** you off! I have seen them grant a card and then couple of weeks down the line drop the limits!
  • Just found this site and thread as I am looking for a new credit card.
On Friday 30th May I received a letter from Barclaycard reducing my limit from £12000 to £2700 and also cancelling my cash withdrawal facility.
I have been with them for approx 25 years, settle in full each month and they cant give me a reason for this. I didn't even know I had this amount of credit limit until they took it away.

Well I had 'another ' letter today saying they are reducing my limit! Telling me to stay within my limit , pay on time  Never had a problem with these , my credit file is ok - all greens! No adverse info.
Never looked at my account from years ago to see if I have any late payments/overlimits - so can't see how I am a problem?

WHATS GOING ON BARCLAYCARD - if you want rid of me - but at least tell me why!

Seems a bit strange as i had only had it for 3 mnths :confused:

Anyone work for Experian/Barclaycard who could enlighten me?

The issue here is'nt having credit from Barclaycard , but wondering what info they are working on.

Well I am going to send a subject access request off - just to see what or where they are getting adverse information from .

No signs of changes yet...lucky me...started my account with Barclays over 20 years ago...had BCard Visa for 20 years, a Mastercard for about 10 and a Woolwich mortgage which helpfully joined the Barclays umbrella...so they know plenty about me and I had my limits cropped a bit last year when I was getting close to them....since then I did some switching and cleared them (through shuffle/tarting) and my limits have shot up to an interesting level and stayed there....think they're happier knowing my mortgage is with the too....

They told me they collate their score from all three credit reference agencies after the same thing happened to me. I asked for a manual review as we are all entitled to under the Data Protection Act and they put the limit back up.

I have held my card now for a year and had my current account with them for just a bit less, all of my money is credited to it, but it leaves me very nervous that you never know exactly where you stand with them. You could be planning on going on holiday and using your card, have no problems whatsoever meeting your commitments, and then bang they take it away for no apparent reason. You get the feeling you cant shop around for a good offer without them thinking you are in trouble.

On the screen in current account internet banking which shows your pre-approved offers after I think it was 6 months I suddenly became eligible for a loan of £7000, having previously had no offer, and then the next month it dropped off altogether it did not incrementally reduce and nothing has come back.

Good luck with the subject access request it would be very interesting to know exactly what is going on, as if they keep this up I will be moving to a bank that can offer a better degree of stability (and no overseas call centres which you almost feel is xenophobic to mention but the customer service cant get much worse, I have re-dialed many a time to try and get through to Newcastle).
