11yr old girls and boys sharing a room?

I was just told that the LHA state that it is acceptable for girls and boys to share a room, up to the age of 11.

Is that right?

That is very scary, considering my friends son who is 8, is now learnin about Sex education in School!

Yes that is correct, until they are 11 children of a different sex are expected to share, well they aren't entitled for an additional room. There are many families who own their home who have children of a different sex in the same room until much older as they cannot afford somewhere larger.
One day I might be more organised...........

    Thanks for the reply.

I don't agree with that at all.

Especially with them being taught Sex education!!!!

Unfortunately we don't get to decide government policy. Being taught sex education would be for another topic, but I believe is being done to protect children rather than cause harm, so it's not such a taboo subject and if they are aware they will let someone know if they are being abused. My sons coming up 10 and hasn't had any such lessons so far.

Dippychick....Lil_me makes a very good point.

Those who have bought their own homes often cannot afford to upgrade to 1 with more bedrooms meaning mixed sexed children do share, often much later than 11.

11 is a very reasonable age for LHA to be set at. An 8 yr old boy is not interested in sex or girls. At aged 8, he would be thinking that every girl is disgusting and thinking more of his power rangers and toy cars.

I think i started getting interested in girls at around 11 when my body started changing.

Sex education at a young age is a good thing, although i doubt it will be as discriptive as you think at that age.

So considering kids are having sex and can get pregnant at 10 and 11 years now, you'd rather they were pig ignorant about it all?

    Unbelievable.

Ive never heard of a girl getting pregnant at 10/11 Conor??

Although ive heard of late 12 yr olds falling pregnant. May be wrong, but surely their periods havent started this early? (10/11?)

I of course may be totally wrong.

Many girls these days have started their periods by age 10 and a large number by 11. So it's possible to be pregnant at this age.

    Oh don't be so ridiculous.

The fact that I have even written a thread about is shows that I am concerned.

For example, Step-brothers and Sisters.. sharing at age 11... God forbid the 11yr old Girl got pregnant!!!!

And by the way, I do not live in Social housing, I am not going to be living in social housing, and my children sleep in separate bedrooms. NOT because I am concerned about them doing anything untoward, but they are all babies and one crying and waking the other is horrendous if they are all in the same room.

And I have not heard of an 11 year old getting pregnant - yet.

If you happen to have to live in social housing it doesn't seem to matter a jot what ages your children are .. a family member has a two bed place with a 3yr old girl a 10yr old boy and until very recently a 14yr old sharing one bedroom .. she was told that she and her partner could sleep in the lounge to allow the 3 children to share the 2 bedrooms.. as her partner works permanent nights arriving home for bed in the early hours this was crazy... its ended up with the eldest girl living away from home with her grandparents during the week as she has a room to herself there... the council said they had nothing bigger available for the forseeable... I know you have to be grateful for what you are given and they are but its really hard to find your family split up like this...

    That is absolutely ridiculous.

Has she contacted her local MP? Maybe you could do it on her behalf.

The 14 yr old should not be pushed out like that.
